you have most likely covered this before but being new to the forum I dont know. the question is, I thought id upgrade an old comp and put the mobile K6-2+ 500 in after seeing toms article on it.
set it to 2.0 volts and 5x 100 wouldnt boot. could get nothing out of the chip. took it back and it was replaced. same thing again. I have been advised by the store that a bios upgrade to allow powernow is necessary? Board is a Tyan trinity 1598s with latest bios. any ideas???

I have now found out that you definitely DO need a bios patch to run these babies.God knows where to get it for a Tyan 1598s as ive got the latest bios with no support for it.
Perhaps Tom could mention this minor detail if he does another article

thanks

John

its better to let people think you are an idiot than open your mouth and prove it

The 1598 will work with the K6-2+. You need the 1.06c bios.
