K8-NXP SLi RAID "funnies"

Hi everyone

I've just built a K8-NXP Sli based system - 1Gb RAM, Athlon 3200,
Gigabyte nVidia 6600 graphics card.

Having read about the problems people have had configuring SATA boot, I
was getting a bit concerned, but mine seemed to build just fine.

Using the nVidia SATA connectors, I had a RAID 1 (mirror) set as the
boot disk (2 x Hitachi 80Gb) and one Hitachi 250Gb as a "work" disk.

XP installed fine, set everything up, partitioned the 250Gb drive as
three logical drives and soak tested for a few hours.

Just before going to bed, I thought I would set off a few copy jobs
overnight, and all of the partitions on the 250Gb (non-RAID) drive were
not showing in disk manager!

I rebooted several times, but the drive simply no longer showed up in
windows.

I checked the BIOS, and under Hard drive boot options, where I used to
see the RAID set, AND the single drive. Now only the RAID set was showing.

Try as I might, I could not get the single 250Gb drive to show in the
BIOS or (obviously) windows.

I moved the disk to the Sil SATA connectors, and it showed up in the Sil
RAID BIOS, so at least the drive wasn't dead. I reconnected it to the
nVidia SATA connectors, went into RAID management, and it showed up
there as well.

What I have finally had to do is add it as a JBOD set in the nVidia RAID
setup, and windows has now presented it as a dynamic volume.

What I can't figure out is how it WAS visible in the first place as a
separate SATA drive (non-RAID) - and I partitioned and formatted it.

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated - I'm really flummoxed
by this one!

By the way, it's F6 BIOS

Cheers

Stu

Thanks Richard,

I have the BIOS downloaded, but I can only find the boot floppy version
on the Gigabyte site - any idea where I can get the QBIOS version so I
can flash it via the BIOS?

Richard - please ignore that last post - I obviously can't read
filenames properly!!

F7 flashed - I'm now wondering whether to go to the bother of trashing
my JBOD and checking if the single SATA drive is identified, or just
leaving it all as it is - i.e. working!

Thanks for the tip anyway
