First time poster on this newsgroup... it's driving me nuts I have K8N
Neo2 motherboard with AMD 64 3400 processor using the stock fan, 2 gig
(2 sticks)ram of Corsair VS1GB400C3 1GB DDR400 PC3200 CAS3, 2 IDE
drives (40 gigs each) DVD ROM and DVD burner, videocard is MSI Geforce
FX 5200, running XP pro sp2 up to date. Every couple days my PC freezes
up, it's unresponsive no mouse (altho the green light on the mouse
receiver blinks) no keyboard only option I have is to reset, PC comes
up then couple days later same deal, I have had it freezing up on me
while video chatting with my brother or just browsing the net, the
Event viewer shows nothing so far I have replaced my memory and just
about to replace my 500 w power supply, I feel like this is a hardware
related issue but just can't figured out !!! Anyone with similar
situation?
Thanks

if the system is freezing, ie the desktop is still displayed but mouse
& keys don't work, then i'd put my money on a dodgy hdd.
i've had this happen on a few pcs and its always a dodgy hdd.

Sounds like something I experienced recently. Part of the time my
PC would work just fine, but sometimes it would freeze or reboot.
Took me quite some time to hunt it down to the power supply which
had an unstable 12 V output. Hooking up a voltmeter showed that it
would sometimes drop to below 10 V, which caused the PC to freeze.
This wasn't load or temperature related but just happened at random
moments (at least as far as I could tell).

So you might want to hook up a voltmeter to check the voltages when
your PC freezes up. It might just as well be something else in your
case, but this is a fairly easy one to check.

Funny you said that because I just purchased a new power supply from
zipzoomfly it was rated pretty high on newegg so we should see...
Thank you
