Kaby lake release

So i was looking up the kaby lake cpus that were said to be released on January 5th. I am going to wait to buy parts for my pc after the new cpus get release. Here are the specs not sure if they are liable but oh well http://www.pcgamesn.com/intel/kaby-lake-release-date

I think the budget gamer is going to be very interested in the i3-7350K @$177

The real interest is going to be the new 200 series chipsets which will enable Xpoint optane devices.

I was thinking the i5 7500 but not sure how the i3s will perform

Nobody knows until release date and reviews come out.
But, you can speculate.
I3-7350 will run at 4.0 stock and allow overclocking.
I3-6100 runs at 3.7 today.

Similarly, the I5-7500 will run at 3.4 stock with no overclocking.
That compares with today's I5-6500 which runs at 3.2
Immediately, we see that the i3-7350 gets a bigger clock boost comparatively than the i5-7500

When you look at a known current comparison if the i3-6100 with I5-6500, the I3-6100 fares very well

And, that is before any extra from better IPC and overclocking.
True, a $177 price for the i3-6100 is higher than the $125 for today's i3-6100.
But, the i5-7500 is supposed to be $189.

They really hurt the budget gamer there by $50+. [strike]No longer will the $120 i3 be an entry-level gaming choice.[/strike] ..... On second thought, I suppose the 6th-gen i3 will still be relevant/available.

It is interesting to have an unlocked Core i3. And since the 6th-gen will use the same socket there will still be a ~$120 budget CPU choice with the i3-6100, right?

Looks like there will be a I3-7300 @4.0 for $153.
Perhaps a i3-7100 for less but I have not seen that yet.

Yeah but the i3-7300 @ 4.0GHz is only 2C/2T. Not an option for gamers.

My guess is that the I3 chips will all be 2/4 and the G chips will be 2/2
But if the link I posted is true, then the G4620@3.7 with 2/4 for $98 will be equal than the i3-6100 and cheaper.

Now that sounds more reasonable. I thought Intel was going to give AMD the sub $150 market, which sounded dumb. I was just saying the other day somewhere else that I'd like to see a Pentium with hyper-threading.

Very disappointing what they did to the i3 CPU's. The 6100 was such a gem, now you need to spend i5 money for 4 threads <_<
Almost forces the budget conscious buyer to go for an i5 or an i7.

That's what I was thinking. But they may have given budget-minded builders a hyper-threaded Pentium for less than $90. Will be great if it is just as good as the i3-6100.
