Kali Linux on my system

So to start here’s my questions.. I’ve built my desktop for games essentially, runs windows everything oc’d ant stable etc etc etc.. I’m getting back into school, always worked on pc’s and have worked with Ubuntu and red hat IN THE PAST, but with a class in taking want to check out KALI but am afraid it’s gonna cause issues with my hardware potentially, next is, can programs like; steam, nzxt’s CAM, asus gputweak2, creative soundblaster, and probably a few others I’ll ask down the line.
Here’s my pc specs, thank you guys for ANY and ALL help in advanced.

Tower: nzxt h700i smart tower
Motherboard: asus Maximus viii hero
CPU: Intel i7-6700k (OC'd to 4.7@1.310v[yes stable, 21hrs p95 test])
Cooler: nzxt kraken x62+noctua ippc3k fans push/pull + Phanteks Halos LuX
GPU: asus nvidia strix RoG 1080Ti 11gb OC edition
Sound card: Creative AE5
PSU: evga superNOVA g2 750w gold
RAM: 2x8gb patriot viper 4 2800mhz ram (oc’d at 3100)
Wifi card: asus pce-ac56
SSD: Samsung evo 850+Patriot Ignite (both 500gb)
HDD: seagate barracuda 1tb + western digital 750gb
++ Samsung T5 (250+500gb drives)
Lighting: NZXT hue+ with extension kit
Fan: TOP 3x120mm nzxt aer RGB REAR 1x140mm nzxt aer RGB


EXTERNALS;
Corsair k95 platinum + rival 700 mouse
Monitor:acer g257hu (oc’d from 60>85mhz)/Raspberry Pie 7in 1024x600 monitor+ acer s231hl as backup for work
Sennheiser GameZero headphones/mic.



Lastly, plan on installing KALI onto a smash t5 for now, once i can stabilize it I plan on swapping over windows (I’ve never really loved windows, I absolutely loved Ubuntu but last time I ran it NOTHING was compatible)

A couple of things:

If you have state of the art hardware, you need to run Ubuntu with the most current kernel.
If you had compatibility issues with Ubuntu, forget Kali, it will be much worse.
Kali is a very targeted OS meant for security professionals for testing purposes, nothing else.
Kali can be very unsafe since everything runs as root (maximum privileges).
Kali very good for security professionals, penetration testing and ethical hacking, absolutely terrible for everything else.
Unless you plan on getting into info-sec, don't use Kali
If you do plan on getting into info-sec in school, don't make Kali your primary OS, run it in a VM instead.

Kali will run off of a flash drive and yes it is meant for penetration hacking testing.

I’m taking a “ethical hacking” class which is why I’m using it, compatibility issues with Ubuntu was in an old pc a number of years back, was just wondering about compatability in present day, and if not Kali what version of Linux would you recommend for everyday use/games.

And yeah, my goal is to obtain an AA in computer science- security software, continue to a 4year major in software engineering minor in security software, or something very similar, but you get the idea and I’m still sorta figuring things out.

Ahh, well I'd recommend running Kali in a VM then. Try VirtualBox.

For the every day use, I personally use Mint (KDE). Mint is dropping support for KDE though so you can try Cinnamon or MATE. I mainly tinker with programming/python, some light gaming and run MythTv. You are running much more state of the art hardware than I am, so it's possible that the kernel that comes with Mint may not be new enough to support some hardware. If you have trouble with Mint, you can try Ubuntu 17.10.

Try both Mint and Ubuntu and be sure to post back if they give you troubles, we'll do our best to help get it running.

And remember, there are sacrifices when gaming on linux, game titles are limited and don't generally perform as well. It's getting better, but it's far from the experience in Windows where pretty much every game title is supported. Make sure the games you want to play are supported prior to ditching Windows.

Yeah, I’m thinking I’m gonna install Kali on my Samsung t5 250gb, that way I can just set the bios to boot from usb first windows second, that way I can plug it in boot into Kali or unplug and boot to windows..
Butyeah, I’ll keep in touch, gonna start messing with it in a bit here, i just want to make sure that like my cpu pump and fans will power and not overheat my cpu especially since it’s oc’d, also all my case fans are hooked to the h700i towers smart device which I also want to make sure will have power... you get the point, leds I can survive without, butyeah I’ll be in touch probably tonight or tomorrow.
