Finally Kanavit have understood that specs sheet is not the only thing to check when comes to CPU. He gave up on CPU speed, cache size and FSB speed to get an Athlon 64 3400+ to play games!

Bravo!

No... It can't be... It's not kanavit anymore!

Were's Kanavit? What have you done to OUR kanavit, you evil creature? You're not him! We can tell the difference! Begone!

Maybe, even an HOLY light!

It's good to see evolution in people's mind. I often change my opinion about PC technology, if you read my last Spring posts, you would see that I have changed my mind. I still got my old tbred (now known as Sempron) and my old Radeon 8500 is still beating in the heart of my rig!

I wait for PCI-EXPRESS Athlon 64 solution. But, Half-Life 2 is almost there... Damn it! I really want to play that game in HQ!

I consider Nvidia's unified driver package as a big advantage. Unlike other chipset drivers, it installs everything at once.

the Sempron is affecting the way people look at you. I used to worship you, now in my eyes you're just a fagg0t
I will change my signature and replace the Sempron with an FX-55, people will respect me much more!

Thanks scottchen for your lovely input!

One of the best things about nforce2, was soundstorm. I was going to upgrade from nforce3 to 4, just to get it back, man am I choked that they wont be bringing it back.
I still have problems with Via, and compatability. Even the 939 boards dont play well with soundblaster sound, and to a smaller degree, msi \nvidia graphics (mostly vivo).
Problems on nforce chipsets are less pain.

Sure, SoundStorm is great, but nVidia prefer to offer chipset with more workstation/server oriented features.

My non-deluxe A7N8X don't have SoundStorm and I'm happy with it! I'm pretty dure there is a lot of people out there who got SoundStorm and still plug SB card in their PC!

For the VIA compatibility issue, I didn't knew about that. But, if you use the integrated AC'97 audio, you can bypass that problem!

SoundSorm is awesome, but recent AC'97 codecs (ALC650 and later) aren't bad

My brother has an NF7-S, but uses an Audigy.

Why? Because although everything else is fine... The sound on 'Blocks From Hell' (a mid-90s DOS Tetris clone) Doesn't quite work properly  ...

I think his problems stem from the OS - he's on 98SE. I had a few problems here and there with mine until I finally upgraded to XP, and now it's fine. SoundStorm+98SE seems a slightly problematic combination.

I keep trying to convince him that XP really isn't that bad, but he insists on staying stuck in the Dark ages, until he gets another 512Mb of RAM (Has 512Mb ATM).

BTW, he can try this Unofficial Win98 SE service pack. It may solve the sound issue.

I know that... And believe me I've tried pointing this out.... ... It's my own fault really, because when I upgraded to XP I told him one of the reasons was the fact that 98SE can (allegedly) only support 512Mb of RAM. So he's kinda interpreted it a$$-backwards and decided he needs 1Gb before going to XP...

I'll go shove the service pack on next time I'm round there - thanks for reminding me about it! With any luck it'll screw up his install enough to need a re-install, and then he might as well go XP
