Keeping the HDMI and laptop audios isolated

I'm trying to play a movie through my HDMI, but I want to be able to use both my laptop's and the HDMI audio.

In other words I want to be to keep the movie playing on the TV while restricting the audio from playing games to my earbuds, so I don't have to play muted while my relatives watch a movie.

i am pretty sure you can only use one audio device at a time

Think you can do that with extra program like Virtual Audio Cables, not in windows, (at-least not in windows 7)

herd in XP you could pick witch sound goes where but they removed that feature in later windows.
