I need to keep users from being able to move files such as
docs and spreadsheets from a folder. How can this be done?
I'm using Win 2K Server.

Users need delete permission to move a file which is included with modify permission.
So you would have to give users read/list/execute/write permissions only in order to
stop them from moving files. The only problem is that will prevent them from deleting
their files and maybe even modifying them. An alternative might be to give users
read/list/execute/write permissions and then give creator owner modify permissions to
the folder. That will at least only allow a user to move only their own files based
on ownership. Move is a read/write/delete operation. If files/folders are lost you
can use advanced search operations on the computer to try and find them. For instance
you could search for all the .doc files modified in the last day that start with m
[m*.doc]. I have had to do that myself here at home on a number of occasions for
family members. --- Steve

I am trying to do the same thing by removing drago and
drop feature which is the number one cause of files being
moved, but since nonone has answered my post, I am
assuming it can't be done.

I know of no way to do such. I read a post somewhere where someone used
Tweakui to modify the "distance" a folder would have to be moved via the
mouse to be considered a drag which he claimed helped but I have never
looked into that myself. --- Steve
