Keeps forcing me to use manual loading

I have a Brother HL-2170W and am trying to print some blank index card sheets (standard paper size) through Word using a template. Even though I set the printed to pull from tray 1, it never tries and automatically says to load paper into the manual feed. Any idea why? Could i be something with the template? Thanks for any help.

Sensor is not reading the paper or is smart enough to to try to print on that paper. Not all types of paper can be loaded in all trays with all printers.

You can set the paper tray manually in the document, you can check there also. But if regular paper works fine from the regular tray, and this paper does not, don't fight the printer and use the tray it wants to.
