I have recently built a new gaming computer. Everything works fine but I keep getting a critical error of Kernel-power 41. This only happens when I have multiple things open such as malawarebytes, chrome, discord, steam. It has gotten so bad that I can not even get on my game for no more than 2 minutes without my entire pc shutting down and rebooting. Could I be putting too much stress on my power supply?

SPECS:I5-9600kf
gtx 1050
16gb ram
western digital 1tb hdd
Asus prime b365m-a
Apevia 500w power supply(i use a 4 pin to 8 pin cpu adapter)
cooler master hyper 212 rgb black edition

Replace your PSU with one which isn't made of silver-painted cardboard, yes. It's not the rating which is too low, it's the PSU itself which is crappy and probably unable to handle more than 150W on the 12-volt rail. Considering that a fried PSU could destroy all your hardware, it does pay to get a good one. Seasonic is good, usually.

Ok,thank you

  1. The crappy PSU
  2. The 4 -> 8 adapter on the crappy PSU
  3. See #1

I wouldn't trust that to power an LED desklamp.

Kernel Power 41 is a response to an unexpected shutdown and restart.
When Windows boots up, it checks to see if things were shut down properly. If not...41.
It is not a reason for the shutdowns.

It MIGHT be the motherboard is quite sensitive to bad power delivery (some have higher tolerance than others), but then again it's a power delivery problem - so more than likely your PSU is at the source of it all. Replace it first.
My motherboard is brand new, I would lean more to the psu being as that it was fairly cheap.
