Key board and Mouse ports on MSI motherboard N1996 no longer operational

Had a bit of a surge and motherboard (MSI N1996) took A HIT. Keyboard and mouse ports no longer work. Machine will boot up and the hard disk drive will work, and video is sent to monitor. Screen comes up that says windows did close properly and ask how do I want to start machine. Keryboard does not let me respond. After timing out windows starts normally and runs to a point where it indicates that the hard disk needs repair. Cannot use the mouse or keyboard to move around choices. Any suggested work arounds? I have tried plugging in a USB keyboard with no success. Thanks for any help.

Try the USB keyboard in different ports. If it does not work in any of them, this MB sounds like it too a big hit, and doubt you will be able to work around these issues other than to replace it.
