Well, I wrote a bit about this in some thread or another, but just found that
someone had been nice enough to have already crunched the numbers: :)

Holy Shythed!

They surely utilize some type of suxxor asymptotic piece of bollocks in
their equation.

Not the person who calculated it.

Blizzard uses the suxxor equation.

What I also find extremly odd is that from 1 to 8 players the reduction
is only 7.5% for countess and more than 30% for Summoner and Nilly.

Is this one of those organizations that has "good seed", "bad seed" for
the Mathematicians that they hire?

I think it was Stephen van Ham <svanham@xtra.co.nz> that wrote
something like...

Well, nice to know I'm not missing out on too much in only being able
to have 2 characters in the games when I'm solo running for keys.

That would also work. What I would NOT do is fall for thr trap of
trying to hunt them in 8 player games. Yes, the chances are SLIGHTLY
better, but not nearly enough to offset the addidtional time it would
take.

Hello Ruben,

My fellow Mathematician and friend took the liberty of reading the
first thread in this post and looking into the drop information he has
in the file and after examining the results and verifying that they are
correct we have a perfect quiz question for the class of Diablo Math
101.

Question:
Joe and Tom are key hunting in Hell. Bill and Ted whisper Joe and Tom
that they want to come and key hunt with them so that all four can go
kill some ubers. What reply will Joe and Tom give to Bill and Ted if
they want to maximize the probability of key drops?

Answer:
Joe and Tom whisper to BIll and Ted that they chould make their own
game and send themselves in to hunt for keys

Extra credit question:
What do Bill and Ted reply back?

Extra credit answer:
Bill and Ted are too lame to figure out that what Joe and Tom whispered
to them is the way to go to maximize the key drops amongst the four of
them. So Bill and Ted tell Joe and Tom to "hack off" as they are most
definitely being heinous and they go search the pubbie games and find a
game called 2Babes42Guys and join in and meet two real hot female
Diablo players who have the most uber gear that two teenage
libido-ridden players could ever want to meet. They live just 20 miles
away. Soon Bill and Ted are traveling to the hot babes apartment for
alternating sessions twixt Diablo and various forms of Crushing Blow
and Preserved Head and Ignore Target's Defense and all other forms of
horizontal melee that can take place at that level of play.

Joe and Tom never see Bill and Ted again.

In other words, have ONE other player doing teh runs with you and you will
maximize the number of keys you find.

The over the head post makes me have to ask the following:

One character partying in a game where other players are partying
elsewhere in the same game will only get "players 2" for drop
determination?

This game gets more interesting every day.

In your example do the three of them have to be partied while searching
in seperate areas?

You do know that this will make a new Bill and Ted question for the
next Diablo Math 101 quiz?

Cue sound: Rapidly approaching, very low flying propeller driver airplane,
with engine straining to the limit, followed by a ZZRRROOOOMMM (must debris
flies around), followed by the change in pitch as the plane rapidly
disappears into the distance.

Ruben "Wow, that went right over my head!"

The original post refers to 'effective players'. If you follow the link it
explains that effective players means partied and playing in the same area
(I believe it's roughly 2 screens distance). Otherwise, other players in the
game (not meeting the EP definition) count as 1/2, with fractions being
dropped. So to reach 2 EP you need another player partied and in the same
area, or two other players anywhere in the game.

The same EP thing applies for boss drops and reducing the 'no drop' chance
to zero. You need 2 EP for zero no drop.

Mark
