keyboard and mouse issue

So my HDD died today, and I found my old HDD and plugged it in, boots fine. But I have a problem with keyboard and mouse.. They both work in the bios, but on the login screen neither will respond so i cant login. Not very tech savy, sorry if the solution is simple.

Probably an issue with motherboard drivers. If you are plugging them in to USB 3.0, put them in a 2.0 port.

They both worked an hour ago on the dead HDD, the problem only occurred with this old HDD. Funny thing is, both keyboard and mouse are from the old computer which I got this HDD from.
