Question Keyboard and Mouse Stop Working

I have an old Dell Studio that is running windows 10 ---

Been working just fine until the last week where the keyboard and mouse stop working for no reason.


The machine will be booted up and they work and then I step away and come back and they are dead will not work and I have to do a hard reset and then when the machine boots back up they work again.

I have no idea what the problem is.

Have you tried different USB ports? Also try re-installing the drivers for them if, check "Device manager" on windows search to see if you can detect the USB devices.

Yes, when that stopped working I would unplug and plug into a different port and nothing would happen.

This last time I booted I had then uninstalled and then booted up and after the machine was up I plugged them in and they installed and started working.

I use USBDView to debug my usb problems, should I ever encounter them.

Yeah not sure about some third party app.... it just happened again.

I can see the keyboard and mouse are still lit up but no action or movement. Can't even see the mouse pointer anywhere....

Another hard reboot.

I tried a system restore and that didn't help either.

Still am having intermittent times where I will leave the PC and come back and the mouse and keyboard are not responding and have to do a hard reboot.

When it reboots they work again.

I've tried updating the drivers... windows says they are current.

I've went into the power management and disabled the USB selective suspend setting to disabled.

I've rebooted and sure enough it still happens.

Not sure what else there is to try.
