Yesterday I came home after a week away and plugged in my computer.
I turned it on as per normal, though for some reason I couldn't open the login screen on windows. I was stuck with the image of the day.
For some reason it seems my mouse and keyboard do not work in windows. They do however work in bios.
I have an ASUS motherboard and have made no changes to my computer lately.
I'm running windows 10 though my computer still thinks there's a windows 7 install so goes through a select which OS screen to use first, at this screen things aren't working.

Some things I have tried:

  • Mouse and keyboard in another computer- they work.
A different (wired) mouse and keyboard- they don't work.
BIOS, legacy USB support= it is already on
BIOS, XHCI hand off, disabled> enabled=it doesn't work
Unplugging the computer and trying again another day= no difference
Changing USB port= this doesn't work
Unplugging and plugging in again keyboard and mouse= doesn't work
    Fast boot enabled> disabled= doesn't work.
Keeping my power button held in = doesn't work.
Unplugged all extra usb peripherals= doesn't work.

The one thing I haven't tried is a PS/2 mouse/keyboard, because....the local electronics shop doesn't have any. If I can't get my computer working I'll have to order one on line though for now can't do anything here.

Is there any way I can uninstall my usb drivers from bios and force win 10 to install them before I login?- disabling them in bios won't do this right?

Is there any way to boot into safe mode from the bios screen?

Any other solutions that may work?

By pressing the reset button on my computer before i reached the select os screen whilst windows was loading i was able to get the boot menu for windows which I could control.
Safe mode didn't work nor did a repair restart.

I had a system restore point from 2 weeks ago. That fixed it.
Though I'd really like to know if anything has a clue what on earth might have caused this.
