Hi all, i have a little problem with my keybaord and mouse. they are both gaming devices and are currently plugged into rear USB3.0 ports. last week they are in USB2.0 ports but for some reason suddenly stopped working.

this is a pain because i have a few devices that actually require a USB3.0 ports.

i have been looking online all week to cure this problem from usb power settings, updating and uninstalling drivers and even changing computer. nothing works.

i have a AULA gaming keyboard and mouse. and a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Motherboard. i know its an old generation of AM3 but its never failed me until now. please help

it was because they worked in those ports when i got them and i only have 2 USB3.0 ports. if i have to connect my phone up, i have to use one of those taken ports for transfer to work.

Could be that there is some ongoing failure and the USB 3.0 ports cannot maintain the load.

My thought is to get a USB 3.0 Hub with its own power source.

Run a known working USB 3.0 cable from one of the computer's rear USB 3.0 ports to the "In" port on the hub.

The hub will have multiple "out" ports that you can use to plug in additional devices.

I just purchased such a hub a few days ago via staples. Here is the link:

https://www.staples.com/Staples-4-Port-USB-3-0-Hub-Black/product_2094933

Full disclosure. I have not used the hub yet and this is not an endorsement of the hub either.

[Note: Needed something quick. Part of a "Plan B" effort that has been set aside for the moment.]

Two parts.

Part 1:

If you only have two USB 3.0 ports and both work properly then you should be able to plug in additional USB 3.0 devices by using one of those two working USB 3.0 ports to connect a USB 3.0 hub (with its' own external power source) to provide extra USB 3.0 ports.

Plug the additional USB 3.0 devices into the hub's ports.

Part 2:

As for the USB 2.0 ports, do other USB devices work in those ports? Or do they fail only with the keyboard and mouse?

Is Device Manager reporting the USB 2.0 ports are working properly or did you use some other method to test the ports?

If the USB 2.0 ports are on the front panel they may have become unplugged on the inside. Take a look.

With the idea of getting a USB 3.0 hub, i will do that. as for the USB 2.0 ports, the front IO ports work ok, just the ones actually on the Motherboard themselves have stopped working. i don't understand why

i have tries this program and it has failed to pick up any failures. this is becoming frustrating

MERGED QUESTION
Question from adam.cordingley : "USB 2.0 ports on motherboard"

hi all, all of my above ports have stopped working, my front ports work via a cable which is weird. i have tried all the ways i can see on the net including deleting universal bus and etc etc in the device manager.

i saw on the net somewhere that maybe the ports have somehow become deactivated in the bios bit i am unable to access it to see.

i have mashed the F keys on the board to no luck.

i have tried via the advanced options in the recovery options but instead of giving me UEFI, it gives me command prompt.

i am at a total loss. please help

this windows 10 pro is OEM not retail.

Go back a few steps:

Try your keyboard and mouse on other computers.

Try other keyboards and mice on your computer.

Why do you consider that "my fronts ports work via a cable which is weird"? Please add some explanation.

Identify your motherboard in detail. Go online and look for the applicable key press to access BIOS.

May not be an "F key" per se.

My keyboard and mouse work fine on my other computer and i don't own any others. they work fine in my 3.0 ports and the ports on the front IO. where i was going with the cable is the front IO ports are connected to the motherboard with a cable, not actually part of the motherboard.

My Motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 AM3 socket.

Normally with Windows 10 and this board you press F1 or F2 to enter, ive tried every F key multiple times including the Esc and Del keys. nothing. i wanted to access this because i had read forums that sometimes with a particular windows 10 software update, somehow it has disabled the 2.0 ports and had to be re-enables via BIOS.

The only thing i can see from other problem forums is that my pc is loading too fast and somehow isn't recognising my inputs fast enough proir to loading.i dont know if this is real but ohh well.

I have tried using both the 3.0 ports and the 2.0 IO ports for this but nothing.

The rear 2.0 ports doesnt recognise anything. keyboard, mouse, phone, flashdrive. not even a joypad. It powers just fine but thats it. i can plug my speakers into one of these non-functional ports just for the power.

Hope this is enough information.

Thank you for the manual, as stated in this, i am to press DEL to enter when on the start screen but it doesnt happen, i have decided to email Gigabyte and see what they suggest. thank you all soo much
