keyboard failure when booting bios

Hi folks,
I am having an issue with my keyboard being inactive before windows loads and i cant access my bios because of it. I have seen a few threads with my problem but have not found a solution to my problem. any help would be much appreciated. before windows loads it says keyboard failure. once windows loads the keyboard works

Have you tried with a different keyboard? it could be something as simple as a locked button that doesn't have an effect while in windows (like F6-F12).

ive tried 3 different keyboards and to no avail

i need to access my boot menu to update windows xp to windows 7. no matter which keybord i use my computer wont recognize the keyboard before windows loads

What mobo do you have? If you tried USB only keyboards give it a try with a PS/2 kb.
