Hi Everyone,

I am no IT expert / Technician so please forgive me if I may word out some things incorrectly.

So what happened was, some of my keyboard keys (Down Arrow Key, Numeric Keypad 3, 6,9 and .) suddenly stopped working. Tried to scour the net for simple solutions, from unplugging the USB, Clearing device manager of the Keyboards registered, Removing the power cord for a bit and plugging it in.. i don't know but I am going nuts with this.

So I got into thinking that it may be left to buy a new keyboard (Despite mine is still new, an Asus Cerberus which is just barely 2 months old) So I bought a regular cheap one for the meantime. Plugged it and same problem.

The only thing that I did before these stuff happened was I updated my BIOS (but did not flush out before doing so) and installed a new processor. I am thinking of reformatting and flushing out the BIOS this weekend if no other options are available.

I am trying to avoid the reformatting process so I am reaching out to you guys if you know any solutions to this.

Not sure if this is needed but my CPU consists of:

Motherboard - Asus Z87M-Plus
Processor - Intel i5 4690K (Stock Speeds)
Graphics - GTX 750ti (To be replaced in January)
PSU - Corsair VX 450 (To be replaced at the and of Dec)
RAM - Corsair ValueRAM 8GB (To be replaced soon)
HDD - WD 1TB Blue
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Usage: Watching 1080p movies and Casual gaming

Thank you in advance guys and Happy Holidays.

- Donnie

So I guess you also tried the keyboard on another PC and it works fine there. Did you try a different USB port? Try all the USB ports available on your motherboard - typically mobos have two different controllers, so if you killed one with static (hence the problems after your hardware upgrade), the other one may still be working fine.

If not, then you either need to buy a PCIe card with USB ports to plug your equipment there, or you may need a new motherboard.

Remember when working with sensitive electronics to always ground yourself before to avoid this type of problems.

Thank you for responding guys.

@darkguset I tried the other USB ports. Same issue. I think I was careful enough during the time I am replacing my parts. Replacing my Motherboard is the last thing I want to happen. Otherwise, ill just upgrade :/ ill see what happens after I reformat this weekend.

@ac13044 I tried holding the kets it but nothing happened? I think I held it for like 20 - 30 seconds. Is there a specific window that needs to be open or just in the desktop is fine when I do this ?

So after trying out a lot of measures and troubleshooting, even re-reformating and flashing out the BIOS the problem still persists. Though it come and goes, its still there. I goes it's safe to conclude its a motherboard problem.

After the holidays, i'll bring my motherboard to a technician and see if it's worth fixing it. Otherwise, i'll just buy a new motherboard. :/

Thank you all for those who extended their help.

Happy Holidays guys ^___^
