Keyboard not working after restart

I was using my desktop just fine today when I decided to install visual basic community edition. I also had an avg free update to do, so I decided to restart when both required it. After the restart, my ps2 keyboard with the general plug and play driver quit working. Looking under device manager, it said windows blocked it because of known issues and listed code 48.

I googled it, then tried doing every repair method I came across to no avail. I went out and bought a logitech g105 to see is switching to a usb keyboard would help, and it didn't.

I'm at a loss for words because the only thing left to try is uninstalling and reinstalling Windows 7 and I'm 5 seconds away from putting my fist through my monitor.

Please help. My monitor is too nice to die.

First off, in device manager,does your keyboard (driver) show up as disabled. What happens if you try to enable it. Anything?

Can you try starting the computer in safe mode and see allows your keyboard to start up?

With your USB keyboard, if you aren't already, try using the USB ports on the back (I/O ports) as front panel ports can be finicky sometimes.

Hopefully, this gets you closer to a solution and prevents you from having to buy a new monitor.

Device manager showed the error triangle on the keyboard and stated that windows recognized errors with the device, so I uninstalled the driver, unplugged the keyboard and restarted the computer. The driver never loaded back in. Bought the new keyboard and it is still doing nothing although it is recognized and powered. It's as if windows doesn't want to accept keyboard inputs

Hmm... That's strange... When you have your PS2 keyboard plugged in, and you restart you computer are you able to use it to access BIOS, or you Boot Menu? Anything before the OS actually loads?

I would try checking to see if Windows made a restore point before you installed the update and installed Visual Basic, and restore to that point. Then if your keyboard works, you can try installing each one by one (I'd create restore points) to see which caused it, or if they'll work when installed seperately.

System restore is being blocked by antivirus or something. I've tried multiple times and each time failed. I uninstalled the antivirus and its still blocking it from restoring to dec 7th. Haven't tried uninstalling visual basic yet because I had to leave for work. Will try looking for keyboard drivers and manually installing them when I get home. Possible driver corruption is the thought. If I can't restore, I'll just put all my important stuff on my portable hd and reinstall windows.

I did the system restore in safe mode, but to the same day. After Visual Basic installed, which created a restore point, there was another restore point for "critical windows update" which I believed to be the culprit. I restored to before the "critical windows update" and I now have a keyboard again. For informational sake, I'm trying to document this issue as best as I can so others who experience this frustration can solve their issue too.

So, for sake of clarity to those who may read this looking for help, when Visual Studio 2015 installed, it required a "critical" update. When that update was patched in on the restart, it corrupted the plug and play keyboard driver. I could still navigate, but if I wanted to type something, I had to highlight letters and words with my mouse to spell things out. Not fun. If you're experiencing something similar, look in system restore for a restore point that says "critical windows update" and restore to BEFORE that point, then uninstall anything you were trying to install. What you were installing required an update that made things incompatible with your system...namely the keyboard driver.
