OK this was all OK in 7.
I have a new MS 200 wired keyboard (bog standard cheap thing, but MS) it goes to a USB port.
I play games, so a key will be held down for sometime. After about 9 seconds input stops (I test in Word). Sometimes there is a beep - like the USB device removed sound.
My older Wired MS "Digital Media" keyboard is fine.
Some sort of buffer issues? Overflow? Nothing in event logs and nothing appears on screen when the sound is made.
