keyboard types string of characters

My keyboard seems to have a brief second of lag every minute or two, where it will either repeat the last key typed for the second, resulting in a ssssssssssssssssssstring of characters, or it will just not record any of the keys I've typed over that second.

Things I've tried:

• 
  cleaned out the keyboard
  other keyboards (also had the same issue, which leads me to believe its the computer)
  other USB ports
  uninstalling the keyboard driver through device manager
  virus and malware scans

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

check the repeat rate in keyboard settings in the os it could be high you have to lower it .

thanks for the thought...I tried reducing the repeat rate, but it doesn't seem to have an affect

I've tried 4 keyboards and all behave the same. Also, the issue doesn't seem to be related to any specific character

these keyboard plug in a usb port did you try others and if this not working try to remove all keyboard driver from is maker and restart system to see how the os will detect it as a new device and suggest driver for it .

so I think it may be USB ports is the issue: I tried five of the ports on the back of the computer and the issue occurs with all of them, however the ports on the front of the computer work fine...

the front one are plug on the board with a cable and back ones are directly on the board you could do this checkcthe pins on the back ones system off power the 2 external are power and the internal are for data you might gentlu lift the little tab with a lens screwdriver http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml also those are 2.0 or 3.0 usb connectors on the case .
