Keyboard typing same character continuously

Since last 2 days, my keboard has started typing dash symbol wherever I keep mouse cursor. It goes on typing ---------- continuously...

It's not virus..because I scanned my system with different anti virus softwares & anti malware softwares.

It's not a sticky key either. I removed the key and checked.

Can it be a keyboard issue?.. Any guesses? I searched on the net, so many people are facing similar issues but no one has answer to what might be causing this issue.

Laptop : LENOVO Ideapad z560
OS : Windows 7 64 bit

Why not just (temporarily) replace the keyboard with one that isn't producing those symptoms on another PC?

That won't solve my laptop issue.. For the temporary use I got desktop.

Sorry, I just don't recognize laptops by their names. Sounds to me like an internal problem that I recommend you not try to fix yourself.

You are right. I went to lenovo service center. They advised me to replace the keyboard. They said, in rainy season keyboard problems do arise due to humidity. Cost is around 2500 + 750 inspection charges.

I said OK..but when I tried to show him the problem, the problem did not arise... I was typing for at least half hr.. still I did not get that problem.. So I thought lets test one more day instead of spending money.

If humidity is the problem it will definitely change on a daily basis. I live in Arizona so I'm mostly unfamiliar with problems associated with high humidity. I do, however design electro mechanical assemblies for a living and can tell you that electrical contacts can be made to work under water. Personally, I would consider this a symptom of a poor design.

90% Humidity is the reason .. Let's see.. I will update this thread tomorrow to let you know if the problem is gone or not. I guess you are right about poor design.. If TV doesn't fail , why should keyboard.. and as per Lenovo service center guy, number of keyboards act wierd in rainy season. Like , M would get typed if you press L & similar kind of,, Unfortunately only solution to it is to replace the keyboard. 🙁

Same thing happened with my desktop Dell Vostro ....I realized this problem a couple of days ago when it started typing --------- cursor lines continously without me typing anything. I checked out through this forum and realized that, it is not virus problem but keyboard problem. So I disconnected the keyboard and connected a wireless keyboard. Oh..la...my problem was immediately solved. And, as observed by one the respondents, now it rainy season here and humidity could have played a spoil sport here. I think the problem is completely fixed now. ...thanks to the forum

It happened to my Lenovo Essential and I ended up changing the keyboard.
