Shuttle XPC SZ77R5 -
Intel 3770k
Mushkin 2x4GB PC12800

My USB on my Shuttle SZ77R5 doesn't appear to be working. Here is what happened:

- I switched out my 2x4GB of RAM for another 2x4GB of RAM to try and fix an unrelated issue with graphics performance. Both of these sets of RAM have worked in the system in the past.
- I restarted and the keyboard was unresponsive. Mouse and wifi dongle still worked. Windows says the USB device is unrecognized. Tried different USB ports and all give the same issue.
- I restart again, no change. I try plugging the keyboard into the USB port the mouse is plugged into. This doesn't work, and try plugging the mouse into another USB port but now the mouse isn't working. Try putting the mouse back into the original USB port and it still isn't working. From this point forward, the mouse and keyboard don't work and it doesn't matter what USB port they are in - I tried them all.
- However, the wifi dongle is still working. So I try pulling that out and putting the mouse into that USB port. It doesn't work. Plug the wifi dongle back in and it doesn't work. Now I can't get any device to work in any USB port.
- Try changing RAM slots with the two different types of RAM - no help.
- Try resetting CMOS. Now I get a checksum error, but I can't hit any keys on the keyboard to continue. Now I'm in big trouble.
- Try taking out the battery and letting it sit for 30 min, and reinsert. No change.
- Take out GPU, unplug both HDs and CD drive. Leave only 1 RAM stick. No change.

I'm stuck - because I can't get the keyboard to work, I can't progress past the checksum error page.

Lights on the keyboard come on momentarily when plugged into any usb port. Light on the wifi dongle stays on when plugged into usb, so the usb ports are still powered.

Any advice? Shuttle wasn't helpful when I wrote them. CMOS battery was replaced today with no change.

I did see your USB devices are not working now but have you tried a different keyboard. I'm guessing when you say the lights come on for a moment are you using a gaming keyboard? Does your motherboard by chance have the old style PS2 connection for mouse and keyboard that you could connect to with a PS2 to USB adapter?

Keyboard is a USB mechanical keyboard, so targeted at the gaming market. Tried to use a wireless normal keyboard with USB dongle with no success (which has worked in the past). The lights for cap locks comes on momentarily on the mechanical keyboard if I turn on the computer or plug it in to any USB port. They then turn off and will not come back on (unless I unplug it and plug it back in again). Unfortunately, no PS2 connection.

Any other thoughts? I can't find anything online to suggest how to fix this problem. I'm about to give up and chuck this motherboard and sell the parts.

on the cmos error. put the newest bios for the mb on a usb stick and power up the pc let it sit for 20 min see if the bios will recover. on your usb ports check for bent pins on the devices and make sure the io shield not shorting any of the ports out. also if there any hubs or ext hard drives or printers unplug them.

Thanks smorizio. I've tried putting a couple (unzipped) Bios from this page onto a USB with no success. (http://global.shuttle.com/products/productsDownload?productId=1581&panelId=1 )

Nothing plugged in except one stick of RAM, SSD and keyboard.

I tried renaming the bios per the instructions and putting it in the root directory of the bootable USB. No good. I then tried holding ctrl+home while cycling power - no good.

Feeling pretty hopeless at this point! Not sure what would cause the USB ports to all stop working (I tried them all).
