I've heard they don't live up to the hype.

There is no doubt that its a good network card, but probably not worth the money.

Not really, you won't see any perceptible improvement in game response times. You can try it, but you aren't going to make the internets any faster. Essentially all they do is prioritize UDP traffic going out of your network card and only between your router port and your NIC. Once the traffic hits the internets (where most of the delay and packet loss occurs) things return to normal. So it improves the least likely point on your network to have any problem in the first place. Sorta like making plugging a leak that doesn't exist yet while the rest of the plumbing is spewing water like crazy.

If all you are doing is runnign a game then there isn't any contention for priority. So, unless you are downloading torrents, FTPing some p0rn and watching youtube at the same time, from the same machine then there probably won't be any noticeable improvement in your gameplay since there isn't any contention on the wire to begin with.

And even if there was a difference, you shouldn't do that to your internet connection. At least not if you are serious about your ping, in the first place.

That card is not needed, but since it was a gift and you have it anyway... use it.
