Hi I need someone really familiar with the King Air 350.
I have been trying to fly from Corpus Christi, TX : ; to Cancun, Mexico
: . This flight is 707NM direct GPS. I read that the King Air has a
range of 1700NM, supposedly a cruise speed of 315. The first time I set
the flight up I chose the FS9 given altitude of 3500ft. Once at
altitude I set the auto-pilot to fly it using direct GPS. I brought my
prop RPM back to between 1500 & 1600 RPM, set the Gas Turbine RPM to
90% as recommended, turned on Auto-Feather, this drops the Torque RPM.
Idle levers were set to low Idle as per Take-Off.

I fly along just fine but I am in a hurry to do the lading so I kick on
the Simulation rate to x16 cause I am using Auto-Pilot. I am watching
my fuel usage. Fuel Flow is showing approximately 5.4. I am watching
the fuel drop at what appears to be normal till it hits halfway, I
check NM to go I am just under halfway there. This bothers me right
away cause I am only flying 707NM and half my fuel is gone, I have
about 325 left to go. I think that, well maybe cause I am flying such
low altitude that I am using more fuel. Oh by the way my weight is
lighter than normal cause I have set for me 217lbs, GF who is 140lbs,
and 250lbs luggage in last compartment. I am light I should be getting
great fuel mileage. Weather clear no wind, yeah yeah I know but I am
just learning, I will learn flying in real weather after I figure out
how to get what fuel mileage I am suppose to. Anyway suddenly just
after my fuel hits halfway it starts dropping like a rock I mean fast I
am out of fuel in 10min and I still have 200NM to go.

Ok so I try it different, this all same settings but I fly at 17,500ft.
Thinner air maybe I get better fuel mileage. Same result but this time
I make it about 75 miles further before I hit half fuel mark and needle
begins dropping fast. Ok maybe it has something to do with Simulator
rate. So this time same settings, but I actually fly it at normal
speed. I fly at 17,500ft. By the way with Gas turbine set at 90% and
prop RPM set at 1500rpm. My Indicated air speed is 259 nm/hr. The best
I have ever been able to get from this beast is 268 nm/hr nowhere near
315.

Well this time I get to 177 NM away and I hit halfway point in my fuel
gauge. Much better. Almost there. So the simulation go fast thing
really does affect what fuel I am using it can not keep up. Anyway all
looks well then suddenly the same thing just past the halfway point on
my gauge. Boom there it goes I am going to be out of fuel in 10 min.

1)So now question. Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like
there is something wrong with FS? Now this plane is a repaint from
World Wide Air I think. How ever I check it by trying same run same
settings with FS9 King Air same thing happens.

2)Can anybody tell me the best cruise speed?
3)Best Altitude?
4)Best settings?
5)Does anybody know of a King Air for FS9 that is a a a more authentic,
better panel? You know everything working, I mean everything! It would
be nice if it was better looking. I would be happy to buy one. I really
like this plane

Thanks Ken.

Ken: I have heard that the aer-o-works has a very good King Air out,
extremely high quality and detail. Bill

Don't know about FS2004, but the default Baron King Air in FS2002 had a
fuel gauge problem. They moved like the plane had four engines w/
afterburners. When the gauges reached Zero, they wrapped around and kept
going for another turn. I suspect the culprit was a multiplier problem
because of a typo (eg 8 vice 3). To my knowledge, Microsoft never addressed
the issue.

Cheers,
John

Yup, if you just keep going thats what happens it goes all the way
around and stops at halfway point again. Right now I am getting ready
to buy a king air from AEROWORX it looks great and worth the few
dollars. Everything works on this plane, it has a few bugs but they can
be delt with and there might be an up date to fix them.
