Hey community

I need your help to decide which is the best "Sub-300 USD, gaming, slim bezel, IPS in EFINITY 3X display side to side" monitor

I've narrowed most of the sub 300 USD IPS monitors that have very thin bezel as of February 27, 2013

1. Dell S2740L 927M9-IPS-LED 27-Inch *UPDATE: Bezel is .845 in (2.15 cm) http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/images/dell_s2740l/15.jpg
2. Lenovo 18200587 27-Inch (LI2721s)
3. ViewSonic VX2770SMH-LED 27" *UPDATE: Bezel is .7in (1.8 cm) http://www.itproportal.com/reviews/home-office/viewsonic-vx2770smh-led/
4. HP Pavilion 27xi
5. AOC i2757fh *UPDATE: Bezel is less .5 in (1.1 cm IRL, MEASURED BY ME UPDATED: 18/02/2013 see images at the end of this thread) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/AOC---27%26%2334%3B-Widescreen-Flat-Panel-IPS-LED-HD-Monitor---Piano-Black/Silver/6293177.p;tab=reviews?id=1218726428129&skuId=6293177

They all claim to have the thinnest bezels in the world but no one really give the exact bezel measurement. *SEE UPDATES

Tomshardware narrowed the selection to number 3 and 5 and claiming number 3 the winner (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/aoc-i2757fh-viewsonic-vx2770smh-ah-ips,3385.html) However, number 3 is the ugliest IPS monitor of the bunch and several Amazon reviewers have reported pink blotches and dead pixels (this is also the most reviewed by costumers monitor of the bunch)

PCMAG.com and tftcentral.co.uk recomended number 1 for gaming (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_s2740l.htm) but they don't mention how thin is the bezel in that monitor and users complain a lot that the screen is to glossy and reflective like a mirror, which really is disappointing.

To be honest I want to buy number 5 but several youtube videos and sites report that this monitor has a noticeable back-light bleeding. I don't see this as a big deal. This seems to be the best monitor between price and specs but it only has 2 HDMI inputs (No DVI, No USB) and I don't know what is the real bezel size. The 5 ms response time (or so AOC claims...) sounds too good to be true.

I have searched useful information on the number 2 but is nowhere to be found, I only have the spec sheet from Lenovo (http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/cmbook.pdf) This monitor doesn't have a brick for a power supply (because this is inside the monitor) and it's the most elegant of the bunch however the response time (14ms) really scares the gamer in me.

Number 4 is as ugly as number 1 but the claimed response time is 7ms and barely made the price but what I don't like is the silver painting. (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2414924,00.asp)

Since I want to get 3 monitors I want to make sure I'm getting the best one in these 3 categories (from the most important feature, for me, to the least one)

1 Response time for IPS gaming (NO, I don't want to hear about TN monitors or professional gaming 1ms 120hz crap, I'm sticking to IPS, this is what is all about)
2 Bezel size for side to side monitor in Eyefinity
3 Sub 300 dollars price (overpriced ASUS and other IPS monitors is a no no)

*******EDIT 03/01/2013*********

HELP IN THIS FORUM??? Man! I haven't received any! I guess I'm doing the work myself and the views are getting higher every day so this may be as well a buyers guide for a sub 300 USD, gaming, slim bezel, IPS monitor... I'm getting closer to the same conclussion, the battle is between Viewsonic's and AOC's monitors. Dell is coming in 3rd place just because the bezel is over .8 inch (more than 2.0 cm) but the image can't be match by the previous 2... I'm really getting obsessed about these bezels that I'm sacrificing quality over border size.

I won't discuss any other topic unrelated to this. If you were wondering I have a 2 OC Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 in crossfire, enough info....

Solution
I would go with the AOC I2757FH. It has solid blacks, solid contrast, accurate colors, and total display lag that is competitive with fast TN panels, not to mention a total bezel of ~14mm (if you want to go hard and tear up the frame, you can get it down to 10mm (the LG panel used has that much deadzone)). However since the monitor is so thin (~10mm), you can have the center monitor overlap the right and left and actually get the double bezel distance you will have in eyefinity down to ~16mm, which at even as close as 2 feet will only be the visual width of your pinky with your arm fully extended. In eyefinity terms, that is tiny. Also, don't dive into the 1440p monitors. 7680x1440 is 11 MP per frame and only SLI Titans can handle it at...

Not sure I'm replying right, but I'm in the same boat you are. I want a very small bezel for a 3 monitor set up. The Monitors you have listed are great but the only problem I have is none of them are VESA compatible. You would think the small bezel would lead to the desire of dual or even triple monitor mounting and these companies would realize that. So, that's where I'm at. A great VESA mount, IPS, Thin Bezel monitor to mount in a 3 monitor set up. If you have any advise or suggestions, I'd love to hear them ! :)

Thanks

I have plenty of Space in my desk ("U" shaped) so a VESA mount is not really a problem for me. If you are not afraid of opening the monitor and place an aluminum plate (and drill some holes) between the plate and the plastic back cover you can attach these monitors to any VESA mount. I have seen several DIY projects I would try If I ever get the VESA setup fever. These monitors are super light so weight is not a concern for these DI projects. I would try them after I get the monitor.

BTW A few minutes ago I received a super sweet deal of a 27 AOC monitor (tn) from Newegg (via camelegg). they are 199 dollars now!!! Check it out. (March 1, 2013) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160080
These monitors are really, really thin and have VESA mounts. I almost bought 3 of them for the price of 2 IPS monitors, but then again my frame/border/bezel OCD kicked in and restrained myself from buying them. Great deal, great gaming monitors, super fast response, lighter than a feather and VESA mounts but... those bezels are FAT! hehehe and I want IPS.

AOC's i2757fh is leading this contest... Come on people!!! YOU can do better than ME and find me a thinner bezel monitor.

I know there are sweet zero bezel monitors that are VESA compatible coming out because I saw them at CES in Vegas this year...but who knows how long it will take them to get to market.
The 27" AOC is still my choice so far as well, but I'm kind of afraid to buy them and then "ta da", a new zero bezel comes out this summer.
I only have a couple weeks to pull the trigger and get these, so we'll see. :/

I have until this Monday to make a decision and I hope they get another 30 dollar rebate like last week.
This monitor came in October and was in the CES too so it's AOC flapship top of the line monitor, also, this is a Bestbuy exclusive. I doubt this monitor will be replaced by a new model soon.

Sure! You can wait a few months and maybe wait for another monitor brand to give us zero bezel but let's confess: in a few months you and I will be convinced to get 4K 30in zero bezel panels because... that's the next step and not zero bezel of a 1080p monitor. Life is now.

AOC is still the winner in my book.

(they only let you buy 2 at a time, which is weird, but nothing stops you from ordering twice or picking them up locally and talking to a manager)

TFTCentral did a psychotically thorough review on the FM model, which is displaywise identical to the FH.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/aoc_i2757fm.htm

Also, AOC makes another version that is displaywise identical, except that LG adds the polarization coating for passive 3D for the panels in this model.
So if you ever wanted to go super hardcore, you could do eyefinity 3D, which apparently makes people say things like this http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1687040.

HAHAHA!!! Sorry guys for not updating the thread. (1.1 cm IRL, MEASURED BY ME UPDATED: 18/02/2013 see images at the end of this thread)

I finally bought 2 of these wonderfull monitors at Bestbuy at 269 each.

I will answer ANY questions regarding these monitors (and the Lenovo one, because 1 buddy bought one of this). Including photos.

The "real thruth" about skinny bezels is this: Less than 1 cm SKINNY, more than 1 cm FAT, less than .5 cm UNREAL, and unless you take the monitors apart and glue them together don't expect to find less than .5 cm in a commercial monitor under 300 dollars.

Now, Why 2 instead of 3? You all might ask... and this is the REAL FLAW in the AOC I2757FH monitors (and is not the horrible sound from the tiny speakers, which I only tested once and then got a tiny Lepai amp and connected a good pair of Harman Kardon Speakers): They only have HDMI and VGA connector, no DVI.

Just wait for it... If you are planning to do Eyefinity in 3 monitors with just 1 Radeon HD 7970 card and have 3 of these AOC I2757FH monitor you'll NEED an ACTIVE mini display port to HDMI connector (fear not here's the link for this adaptor: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YCE11E/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1WBR3GSJXTJKA).

WHY? well this is because all RADEON HD cards (I don't use NVIDIA so don't ask) they only have 2 NATIVE display ports (mine is a Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB GDDR5 DVI-I/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-E 3.0 Graphics Card GV-R797OC-3GD) so this means only 2 monitors can be driven by this card using the standards ports, the rest (unless you have a monitor with an active display port connection, in which this case this AOC monitor hasn't) must be driven by ACTIVE mini display ports to HDMI, NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES and NO LIES. I did a extensive research and NO, you can't use a passive mini display port to drive a 3rd monitor.

To use a third (or fourth) AOC I2757FH monitor in Eyefinity you have only 2 choices:
1. Use the mentioned MDP2HDS Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Female Active Adapter.
2. Add a second graphics card and then use 3 native ports (2 from 1 card and the 3rd from the second card)

I have right now this config: 1 DVI to HDMI to 1 AOC I2757FH (NATIVE), 1 HDMI to 1 AOC I2757FH (NATIVE), 1 ACTIVE Mini Displayport to DVI because I haven't bought the third monitor and the I'm lending the second graphics card to a friend.

Here you go! AOC I2757FH WON the budget monitor race, the light bleeds but you won't notice unless you are seeing the screens in the dark at a entire black screen (which is stupid, who stares at black scenes in monitors?), there is none noticeable blur and that's another stupid thing, games like Need for speed and DMC add blur effects for visual enhancement so HAHAHA!!!

No other monitor can beat this one in all the above requirements (maybe color, saturation and stuff you don't need while playing games). So hereby I declare AOC I2757FH KING of the IPS for gaming, anorexic bezel, sub 300 dollars monitor.

You are welcome to challenge!

Wow, the bezel is even smaller than I thought it was at ~11mm. My current LG d2342p is about 19mm for comparison.

Apparently, the PCB will drive the panel at whatever the clock of the input is. It will easily take 75-80hz, and up to ~100hz.
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1727336

Like I mentioned before, TFTCentral's settings from their review are likely as good as the panel gets thought they said the defaults were impressively accurate.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/aoc_i2757fm.htm

I'll probably grab the first one at the beginning of the month as well as a better desk (this card table sucks) and then grab the other two and either another 6950 or a just jump to a 7970.

Btw, you've done the internet a huge service by taking pictures of the bezel measurement.

Eyefinity bezel adjustment screen with 2 monitors

2013-03-19%2015.49.00.jpg

Battlefield 3 eyefinity (2 monitors) in Daylight. THIS A PLUS TO THESE MONITORS THEY DON"T HAVE AN ANNOYING REFLECTIVE SCREEN (they are not like mirrors when the monitors are turned off)

2013-03-19%2015.49.34.jpg

The bezel compensation in 2 monitors makes the haircross dissapear (not good)

2013-03-19%2015.50.32.jpg

The bottom silver bezels add .1 cm to each monitor creating a tiny .2 cm gap between monitors (You can see my finger between them) but the total gap is less than 2 cms. My monitor 2 is placed 135 degrees from the other and the bottom bezels create this gap. If the monitors are placed side by side the .2 mm gap dissapears.

BEST DESK??? Easy!!! any that has a L shape, because the monitors can be placed perfectly at 135 degrees of the center one and you'll have more arm rests (your elbows will be resting everytime and tou won't get tired easily)

You'll have to get that third monitor soon and get rid of the eyesore center bezel.

I actually saw another eyefinity set up with these from a guy in Korea, and he pointed out the gap due to the silver bottom bezel as well. I figure it wouldn't be too difficult to determine if there were anything you didn't want to break inside the edges that strike, a quick couple of screws probably. Then you could just take a file and wear the edges down enough to make a clean transition. Alternatively, you could just put a long piece of black tape down the length of the gap or just overlap them slightly, but I think that looks better with the center monitor just over the left and right to keep it symmetrical. Or you could have them in a line, but screw that.

I know! but I'll get my 3rd monitor in 3 months...my wallet has no blood after the gaming rig I built and the SOHO remodelation (including a pair of L shaped desks). I'll upload photos of Eyefinity with my third monitor (AOC e2243Fwk) later (with the ACTIVE DVI mini displayport adaptor). I won't try to fix the bottom silver bezels as the 2 mm gap is not visible because I chose a dark blue (blue sapphire, ironic...) for my walls' colors (thus hidding the gap).

Can you tell me how well this monitor works for full screen 1280x720 gaming? I ask because I would also like to use my PS3 on it, and some games don't upscale to 1080 (Killzone 3). Even if you don't have a PS3, try running a PC game at 1280x720 and let me know if it seems worse than a native 720p display. Thanks!

I would just like to thank you for the testing results; I am in exactly the same situation here and your thoughts and experiences helped with the choice. AOC i2757fh is indeed the way to go :)

You are welcome. I also got a very cheap Korean Crossover QHDA for the centerpiece of my monitors. I think I'll open a new thread for this.

I would recommend the ASUS VN248H-P Super Narrow Bezel Black 23.8" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers for 199.99 at newegg you can wall mount too, I plan on getting three of them soon, hope that helped

I am curious what is wrong with using a DVI to D-Sub adapter? I have used D-Sub in the past on my 1080P monitors and there is no difference, as well, I have used D-Sub up to 1536P on a Sony Trinitron, at 60Hz refresh rate, which looked fine compared next to my current IPS panel (LG 27EA33)... Just stating my personal experience and my curiosity on the need for DVI/HDMI and not using the D-Sub in this situation?
