Question Kingston A400 Ssd on SATA II

no. 200mb/s on an ssd is not as fast as 200mb/s on a hdd.

sata 2 is limited to 300mb/sec. but while hdds cannot do this on random access ssds can. so no, do not feel like you wasted your money, it should still be 2-5 times faster then most hdds.

edit: did you do a clean install? or copied the system? make sure the ssd is trimmed regularly

Cloned from hdd. Still it has 90gb free from 240gb. But how do i reach those 300mbs i saw some benchmarks get 500mbs write/read speed with same a400 kingston ssd.

500 only works on sata 3. not on sata 2.

do an optimize from properties on the drive to force a trim.

it would be best to do a clean install of windows (and then copy / reinstall any programs you need) if your windows can be reinstalled... (make sure you unplug the hdd and install with just the ssd in)

Your system supports SATA II which is a maximum of 300NB/s transfer rate.

The AS SSD says pciide - BAD I think because the system's SATA mode is set to IDE and not in AHCI mode that can impact the performance (upto the rate the SATA II can handle). Change that in BIOS and it might help a little with data transfer rates.

Also See if there are in updates for the AHCI driver for your motherboard from ASUS or whatever third-party controller is driving the SATA ports (AsMedia or Marvell etc.), however I think they're controlled by the board's chipset.

Also check if there are firmware updates for your SSD.

I changed to ahci same performance from ssd might be even slower boot time then hdd

Yea i might try to do clean windows install purely on ssd then will check numbers again

only way to get SATA 3 is when you use PCI-E x1 to SATA riser card. Same or similar to this one,

As far as SSD speed goes, it's about right for that cheap and low end SSD. Seq read could be a bit higher but then again, you're running it in SATA 2 and not SATA 3.
