Hi,

I have recently built a computer with the following components:

CPU: Intel i5 4690K (stock not overclocked)

RAM: HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3

HDD/SSD: 1tb HDD and 120gb SSD

GPU: Sapphire R9 280

PSU: Antec TruePower Classic TP-650C Power supply - 650 Watt

OS: WIndows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I am running the ram in dual channel in the recommended slots according according to the Motherboard manual and first run of MemTest86 brought up 80 errors after the first pass.

So I tested each stick individually and there were no errors upon completing the test. Thereafter I tested the ram together in the other 2 slots not recommended by the manual and the ram passed with flying colours.

Finally I tested the ram in the dual channel slots twice for 16 hours in total now and there were no errors. Upon testing I read the recommended ram for the motherboard and realised I overlooked the manufacture of ram as it's not supported by the Z97P-D3.

However after thorough testing the ram seems to fine now, so I am confused as to whether I should continue using it or return it and purchase one of the recommended models.

I should also note that I initially couldn't understand why my PC would restart at random intervals and show a BSOD notice to ignore or report. SInce then I have absolutely updated everything from the bios to drivers and have not seen another BSOD.

Could it be the ram was loosely installed by me initially, causing these errors? Should I keep the ram even though it's not supported on paper?

Nothing has been overclocked and everything is at stock or default settings.

From research It seems others have had the same issue with different manufacture of components and have tinkered with voltage and timings to fix this problem but as I said I have not tried this.

Any suggestion or point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

if thats the memtest from pasmark then try the one from memtest.org ??

http://www.memtest.org/

one thing I notice is Kingston gets a lot of threads here at toms -- lots - convinced me not to use it

then I was helping a guy with kingstom and this board /chipset and intel had this foot note

Kingston memory: Intel has received reports of a Kingston memory compatibility issue with systems using the Intel® Desktop Board DH61DL. The issue only occurs when two DIMMs are installed. The issues that may occur include corrupt video, no video output, or random reboots. Although the DH61DL board is operating within specification, a modification was made so these compatibility issues are reduced. For more details of memory compatibility enhancement implementation on Intel Desktop Board DH61DL,

now you wonder how many intel chipsets are affected by this as well ??

Hi Junkeymonkey,

Thank you for helping me and sorry for the delay in the replying.

I've tried both MemTest software from memtest.org and the other one from passmark.

Both are telling there are no errors with my ram (after over 12 hours of testing), so could i be one of the lucky ones not affected by this problem you mentioned?

I still don't understand why I had over 80 errors the first time I ran the latest version by pass mark.

I'm still in two minds as to whether I should return this ram set by kingston and purchase one the supported sticks by Corsair.

What would you recommend?

may not of been seated good then you pulled them out and seat them back in and out for testing and now they may of got a good ''scratching '' in contact to the slot

if there not testing errors anymore then call it good -- like a new vid card I like to put it in the slot 2 or 3 times to help insure the ''golden fingers' scratch in good contact as well

memory sticks can be tricky to properly get seated sometimes

what I posted above is just for something to look at and take in consideration but you seem to have things going your way now ??

_______________

If that was about the Hyper X 'Fury' line, it probably had to do with Intel's implementation (or lack thereof) of PnP on the earlier and lower end 1155 mobos. The Fury operate off PnP rather than the more common norm of XMP

just too many threads revolving aroungd Kingston is what I see and seems to struggle with intel now if its kingstons fault or intel ????? that's debatable and the blame game

all I see now being here at tome and scaning threads is who gets what the most here and build a trend on what to avoid and what to try what will work and what seems to not

kinda like a survey

just like said here - they maynot make memory to work on older intel chipsets anymore [not that his is a old chipset ] but all ways something to do with intel how many guys with older intel chipsets you se here and cant get there kingstons to work out ?? lots

i, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. It is possible that the HyperX 4GB memory modules are Single Rank as the latest builds of that part number are Single Rank. Up until recently 4GB modules were standard Dual Rank. Basically, the issue that can occur is that the memory module uses high capacity individual memory chips (DRAM) that the motherboard is not equipped to recognize. Usually, if a motherboard is able to recognized standard 8GB modules it should not have an issue recognizing Single Rank 4GB modules. A "1R" may be printed on the label which would indicate it as single rank. Otherwise, we can confirm this based on a reference number printed on the memory label that we can look up in our system. Other common issue with the DDR2/DDR3 combo motherboards that can be overlooked is that it only supports DDR2 OR DDR3 memory. This means you cannot have both DDR2 AND DDR3 memory installed at the same time, it is an either/or option. We do not currently support your PFG41C-M LX motherboard as we no longer manufacture memory that would be compatible with that motherboard. For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

according to this his memory should be good to go

I think its better seated in the slot now and will work out just fine and dandy for him

That, in part, may be to aggressive pricing by Kingston - but it's across the board, all current lines of DDR3 DRAM are being made with 4Gb high density ICs where a few years back the norm was to low density, especially in the 775, 1366 and 1156 mobos, therefore the newer sticks basically aren't compatible, a few mobos may have gotten BIOS updates that can 'help', but it's rare, similar to the 1366/X58 chipset only supporting 4GB sticks, but there have been reports where some have managed to run 8GB sticks on them (again few and far between).

Basically it comes down to NO, not all DDR3 is alike as so many 'experts' claim - that was part of what drove me to do the FAQs and Fiction article for Tom's, here:

I thought I'd seen the last of this issue however I'm starting to get random blue screens of death again.

Is this of any help towards solving the problem?

maybe google and look at bccode;124 and see whats said on it ? test thigs like your hard drive as well ? lot of stuff on a build that can cause this

may need to get a program like bluescreen view to open and review the minidump flies as well to more pin point the issue ?
