Hello experts

I recently bought Kingston HyperX Predator PCIe SSD 240 GB and would like to know how to optimize it for best performance . Is there any guide or utility that could be used for this purpose ? . I installed Kingston ssd toolbox , but it does not detect the disk . There's not much information about PCIe SSDs on the internet . Can you please share your recommendations ?

Motherboard : ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. SABERTOOTH 990FX
Windows 8.1

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Hi John,
The Kingston Toolbox is only intended for our SandForce controller SATA SSDs. The HyperX Predator PCIe SSD uses a Marvell controller so is not compatible with the Toolbox which is why it is not detected. There really are not any particular settings needed for the Predator SSD, for best performance it just needs to be installed in a PCIe slot running in x4 mode which according to the Sabertooth's specifications should be the black PCIe 2.0 x16 slot. Also, make sure scheduled/auto defragment is disabled for this drive and that TRIM is enabled.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Jewel thank you very much for the reply

I'd like to ask you for some troubleshooting advice again . We all know that Windows 10 has just been released and I'm trying to install it on my Kingston Drive . For some reason installation process takes long hours , it could even take days and fails at the end . If I choose another device (normal HDD disc ) to install W10 on , the installation runs fast and accurate . There are no problems installing W7 and 8 on the Kingston drive , only Windows 10 is giving trouble . I didn't try to log a question on MS forum , since they don't even bother to read them . Please help

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

It has been found that the upgrade process may not complete properly with Predator PCIe SSD. We are developing a firmware update to resolve this for the time being if you do a clean install of Windows 10, that will complete successfully. If you have your Windows 10 key provided by Microsoft, which you should be able to find from the install done on your HDD. You can download their Media Creation tool to make a USB installer to do a clean install on the Predator. The Media Creation tool is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

It's not only about clean install , it's mostly about how much time the installation takes to complete in general . I tried both - clean install and upgrade and both take no less than a day . That's a little annoying . Will you be able to provide any estimate for delivering the firmware you mentioned and eventually where to download it ?

Thanks in advance

We do not have an ETA on the firmware update at this time. Once it is available it will be posted on our support site. The clean install should work with no issue, it is odd that has been a problem for you. Please contact our support team directly so we can further investigate

Hi Jewel

I did contact the support and they recommended the following :

- Ensure you have the latest BIOS installed
- Ensure you have AHCI Mode enabled for the PCIe SSD enabled

I managed to update the BIOS , but couldn't find an option for enabling AHCI for SSD . Browsed a lot of forums , but couldn't find anything helpful . May be it's done automatically .

Have you got any ideas ?

Thanks

Kind regards

Hi Guys,

I too have the Kingston Predator M.2 480GB card ... Very fast etc under win 8.1. But I can't install Win 10 onto it (via update).... it took 14 hours + and then failed with a message, ... "Windows cannot be installed onto a USB disk"

Just tried updating it locally from a burnt CD .. and am now stuck again on the Loooonggg process, that no doubt will complete tomorrow with a fail and roll back to windows 8.1

I have written to Kingston asking when the firmware will be available. "We don't know really isn't good enough".. Hopefully they will come back with an estimate of days, weeks (less than a month) or months
