still twice as slow for the price, why not just buy a 1tb ssd then and get an adapter for it? ive seen 1tbs for $800 or less

You're right, its slower. Your standard SSD will have read/write speeds of over 4-500 mb/s and more. They aren't using speed as the main factor for their pricing. The fact that its a TB of space in your pocket, the size of your standard flash drive, and the fact that its not out in stores like crazy is the reason its expensive.

This thing is huge compared to a standard flash drive. I'd be much more enticed to buy a ruggedized 2.5" 2TB+ external drive that can also fit in your pocket.

Kind of a niche market. You can get a pocket sized external 1TB drive w/ usb3 for under $1000 with the same if not better speeds. Im sorry but anyone who has the time of day to read or write over 500GB to an external drive also has the time to carry around a lightly bigger drive (that is also much cheaper).I want flash drives to get faster, SSD fast and be around 32-64gb in size.

hmmmWD passport 1TB @ USB3.0 and pocket sizedFTW!!!!!any USB device being sold today should be USB3.0 capable or not be sold at all..
