Basically you shouldn't have to install anything in order for the SSD to appear in Disk Management. Would you please be so kind as to post a screenshot of what you see about your drive in Disk Management (you can use imgur.com to upload the image)?
If you can see a Disk there (e.g. Disk 1) with a red arrow, this means that you have to initialize the SSD first and after that you should be able to partition and format it as you see fit. Here's how to initialize a drive:

If that doesn't seem to be the issue, you should try the drive with a different SATA port and different cables, to see if the issue still persists...
