Kraken x62 noise levels?

Hello all!

I currently have a Cryorig H5 Universal. The noise level is relatively small, the cooling is also decent. The cooler itself though is HUGE.

It's not important at all, I'm just thinking how loud a NZXT kraken x62 (280) would sound at the lowest fan settings compared to an air cooler?

I do realize the cooling would be better with the Kraken, that's one reason to get it, the other reason would be the clean setup, the H5 is Huge. However, I'm concerned by the sound. For me, it should be as silent as possible, because of recordings.

I'm cooling an i7 7700k which is at 5GHz sometimes.

Solution
The X62 is not loud. The pump rpm can be changed for less noise and besides, there is no reason to run the pump at full speed either.

The only thing I would do is changing the fans to better ones and maybe add 2 ekstra ones (if you have the room) for a push / pull config. That way you can run the fans at lower RPM.
Cryorig h5 Universal Noise Level 20 ~ 24 dBA http://www.cryorig.com/h5-universal_us.php

Kraken X62 http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/nzxt-kraken-62-review,12.html

The Cryorig is quieter.

Cryorig h5 Universal TDP 160 W

Kraken X62 TDP I can't find a concrete number

The footprint of the Kraken is spread out wider instead of taller.

The Cryorig is less expensive

The Kraken is more expensive.

I'm not seeing any upside to the kraken apart from being able to "hide" the radiator/heatsink.

Ummm after careful reconsideration I still prefer the H5. Are aesthetics are worth that much. They are to some.

Um.. He does not have the H5 Ultimate?

And the X62 can handle more than 140 TDP

If you have the ULTIMATE and not the UNIVERSAL then you will not gain mutch when it comes to temps / noise.

The Ultimate is an high end aircooler and when you compare most high end aircooler vs AIO`s the difference is soo slim there is no sense in changing.

And most AIO`s looses when it comes to temp / noice vs high end aircoolers.

I edited my post, I have no clue why I said ultimate. I have the universal one. I wanted something smaller, being able to hide the heatsink, I thought the x62 would be cool, but I'm afraid the pump would be louder than my h5.

Agreed.

I just bought an X62 to replace my Enermax ETS-T50 AXE air cooler. I have to admit that the main reason for the switch was the looks. I can say there is no other cooler (air or AIO) that looks better than the Kraken family (X62, X52 and X42)...that infinite mirror LED is a killer.

Now about the sound...I was concerned about it too but it surprised me as well. I can barely hear it but it's true that I've overclocked my CPU just a little up to 4.6 GHz. You don't hear the pump at all not even at 2600 RPM and the fans also. I am using for now the stock fans that came with X62 and, most of the time stay between 25% and 50% speed and also cannot be heard.
The only situation in which there is clearly a noise is when they ramp up to max in case your CPU get hot but that is also adjustable.

The most important thing when setting the Kraken up is to decide based on what your pump and fans run faster. You have three options: based on CPU, based on GPU and based on coolant (water) temp. Theoretically you should choose between CPU/coolant temp since GPU is not cooled this way and not relevant.

The most silent setup is choosing the water/coolant temp as reference. If you choose the CPU, as soon as the tem reaches 60 Celsius, fans will spin up and you will hear them. If you choose based on liquid temp, both pumnp and fans will be very quiet.

My advice (also considering you went up to 5 GHz OC) is to use liquid reference for the fans and CPU reference for the pump and on both use the "performance" profile not the "silent" one....or go with a custom one if you see that CPU's temp increases.

I would also advice to use a very good thermal paste, it would be better than the one that came with the X62 and also if you want, you can replace the fans with some Noctuas eventualy 4 of them for a push/pull config with a much lower noise level. I've tried also to OC at 5 GHz just to see if it's working as previously with my air cooler I couldn't reach that freq and I can say the fans are not so silent but don't worry about the pump, that makes the least noise from all.

My setup is
