Greetings,
I was recently working on a system with a KT3Ultra2 (MS-6380E v1.0) board
and had problems getting the sound drivers to work correctly. The system is
using WinME and originally had an MS-6378 board. All prior device listings
in Device Manager were removed while in Safe Mode and the new components
were detected on reboot. I was able to get the USB2 drivers installed
correctly. However, I did not achieve success with either the sound drivers
for the RealTek ALC650 or the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. The sound drivers would
install and the RealTek icon would show up in the system tray. However,
there were no compatible sound devices listed when using the Sound and
Multimedia control panel, the dialog's drop down box was simply grayed out.
Device Manager did not indicate any conflicting devices. The VIA 4 in 1
drivers would appear to install correctly, however the driver installation
program would consistently crash with the progress meter at 100%.

I've checked the bios and I believe that all sound devices are enabled
though I may be unaware of some settings as I'm not thoroughly familiar with
this motherboard. The bios is the latest revision, 5.6. I've updated
DirectX from v7.0 to v8.1 and reinstalled the drivers but that didn't help
either.

I would greatly appreciate any advice to get this system's sound up and
running. Thanks.

Eric

5.7 is the latest bios for the KT3 Ultra2. What version of the sound
drivers are you using? Mine says 5.10.0.3910 in Device Manager.

Thanks for the info on the bios version. I currently don't have access to
the computer but I appreciate your reply. I'll take a look at the driver
version the next time the machine is accessible. Is there a particular
version of the driver that's more reliable? Or a version that's known to
not be reliable?

Thanks again, Eric
