KVM switch problems

Hi there,
Has anyone noticed any problems running Mame32 v0.62 on a PC that uses a KVM
switch?

I've two PCs sharing one mouse, keyboard and monitor, and each and every ROM
I use suffers from "sticky keys" i.e. the character keeps to the left or
right of the screen once the relevant key has been pressed, making the game
completely unplayable. If I put a dedicated keyboard, mouse and monitor on
the PC, the ROMS work fine.
I don't have this problem on any other Windows application or game.

Any input appreciated....

David.

Is it by any chance a USB keyboard or KVM switch? I had a similar issue a
while
back (not specifically in MAME), where a 2 x PS2 --> USB converter
evidentally had troubles
keeping up with sustained rapid keypresses.

Cheers,
Brett

I have never (ever) found or seen a KVM switch that wasn't problematic in
one way or another.

It's not worth the headache. I'm a big believer in L-shaped and U-shaped
desks, a swivel chair, SSH and VNC.

No, just a standard PS/2 KVM switch. Not a USB port in sight!

Like I said, I've not had any other problems with any other Windows app or
game. Do you think that maybe Mame requires a different rate of input from
the keyboard than a standard Windows app would?

Thanks for your reply!
Dave.

LOL!

Can't share your experience with KVMs I'm afraid - never had any other
problems with it.

Cheers,
Dave.

This was my initial reaction to the post as well. We actually have a
old one at work, not even sure who makes it but it is at least 8
years old and its the only one I dont have issues with. The newer they
are, the worse they seem to be. This is all IME, so YMMV.

Your conscience never stops you from doing anything. It just stops you
from enjoying it.

KVM switches are a lot like cars-- you get what you pay for.

I bought a no-name "Bob's KVM Switch" on eBay and it did everything
moderately well, it even allowed you to hook a pair of speakers into it.

Admittedly, it was pretty cheap, only about $15, and I noticed that KVM
switches have to be engineered with good wiring, or a high-fideltu
signal like a sound signal that I was using, would sound like turd.
Needless to say, it did.

However, I have a friend that uses a $100+ Belkin KVM that switches a
sound signal as well, and it sound crystal clear.

Life is journey, not a destination. So stop running.

I have an IOGEAR KVM that works perfectly in almost all respects, EXCEPT the move forward key "W" cannot be used continuously in any game, for example driving or running forward it stops after a few seconds, requiring a rapid tapping in order to keep going, and in playing games like Far Cry 2 or Modern Warfare 2 it is impossible to drive fast enough to avoid serious problems (like death).

I thought it was a computer problem until I saw this thread and realized it is the KVM. Anybody know of a fix other than disconnecting from the KVM to play games?
