L4D2 and GTX550 Ti?

Hello,

I have a strange problem, for some reason when I am playing L4D2 on a Core 2 Duo E7600 @3.06 GHz and 4GB of RAM and a GTX 550 Ti the GPU temperature raises to 82c!
The GPU does not reach these kind of temperatures when playing games like Team Fortress 2.
The case is also dust free, I think that a GTX550 Ti is more than enough to handle this game easily, so without getting this hot.
So can anyone please tell me what is causing this and how to prevent it from happening?

I cannot really judge on how ventilated my case is :s

And I also noticed that my case has a special cooler for the hard disk, if that helps.

Why does it gets hotter on one game than another? because probably L4D2 uses much more GPU than Team Fortress 2 meaning that the video card will be hotter.

if your PSU is powerfull enough there is nothing to worry about your setup.

I have a PSU with 460W, is that enough for a GTX 550 Ti?
And still, I think that something is wrong because on my previous GPU the GT240 1GB the temperatures only reached around 50c with the same setting that I have now.
Can I somehow prevent the GPU from reaching 82c in 10 minutes of playing a game like L4D2?

And I also wonder, why does L4D2 uses around 97 per cent of usage of the GPU?
I think that the GTX 550 Ti shoud be able to handle that game with only using around 20 per cent of GPU usage.
Maybe that is why the GPU gets these kind of high temperatures? because it is almost under ''full load''?
But why at a game like L4D2?

First of all: 460W is enough, but are you sure it is really 460W? some generic psus are labelled at 500W and can't give more than 350W (what is not enough for 550ti)
Second:
GT240 can't be compared to 550ti some low end video cards don't even need cooler and stay under 40Celsius, 550Ti relativelly is a much more powerfull video card that is why it gets much more hotter, if you have a well ventilated case and keep your case clean nothing to worry about, unless it is going over 90celsius.

Third: GPU usage is not so simple, it really depends on how the game was coded, normally good games will use 100% of your gpu, meaning they are using all of the gpu features normally when you set graphics to maximum that happens, no matter what videocard you are using. some games don't go over 50% simply because they are not coded in the same way, sometimes because they use more CPU, or because the graphics aren't that good, so it is normal to have games using 100% and games using less than 50%, and sometimes there are games that don't use much GPU but have better graphics than a game that is using 100%, it really depends on how the game was coded.

And I just want to be 100% I can just keep gaming for like 3/4 hours with a temperature around 75c?

Oh damn that's a shitty PSU.. might be the reason of overheating.

yes that psu is really generic, i would recommend you to buy a better psu. corsair 500w would be the recommended but you can go with a 450w from a good brand.

I'm not sure what he 550Ti's TDP is, but I'm running a 6870/i3 2100 on a 430W Corsair CX. I haven't had problems even after 16 hours of gaming non stop.

Really, 82c ok? I would be quite worried about that, L4D2 isnt that cpu intensive is it not. If i was you i would re apply thermal paste and if temps are still high then buy an aftermarket cooler. Run prime95 and see what temps go up to.

No no! That's a crap brand. The quality brands are: Antec, Corsair, XFX, FSP (Fortron source), OCZ, Seasonic. Don't ever buy a crap power supply, as it's responsible for the whole system stability. A bad PSU might fry your system!

I saw it has quality power supplies, and it's site layout is decent, it's offering a variety of quality products. Even if it's far away from you, the shipping shouldn't be very expensive since the Netherlands isn't a big country.
