L4d2 crashes when tabbed out

I'm in the middle of L4D2 and I tab out to check a skype message or change a setting through control panel. Sometimes when I do that, L4D2 crashes. It happens more than not and I'm confused because I have an amd 6core processor, 8gb ram, and hd 6850 radeon card. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Hi, Your system specs are not the issue here. Alt-Tabing a big application - like a game can cause a form of interference once you go to your desktop. I believe I've had the same issue once, tabing out to check something. Now this doesn't apply to all games, I mean i've done it with games and it doesnt happen. Think of it like running full speed and halting to a complete stop, not really ideal, better to slow down..you get the picture, lol. So my advice, play the game and check your Skype messages afterwards. Cheers!

tabbing out of any game often produces crashes and is not reccommended. There is nothing wrong with the game or your computer.

I play a lot of L4D2 and do a lot of alt+tabbing. However, I haven't experienced this issue. I was using a core2quad@2.33 ghz with a gts250 (1gb) gpu with 4GB DDR2 RAM. The issue was frequent then. But ever since I upgraded the rig (plus 8 GB RAM), I've never had the problem.In fact, I alt-tab out of games like Crysis, Metro 2033, COD, AvP, etc and still don't have any problems.

The problem lies elsewhere. Hope I can come up with some more info on this in time....
