dears,
my LaCie Network Space Max is not working anymore (not even lighting up) and i decided to upgrade to a Synology DS216j, so i would like to reuse the two 3.5" hard disks.

The problem is that DS216j doesnt see any data on the Lacie NAS and i don't know which utility i could use to unlock the data which probably are encrypted. Of course i know the passwords to access the disks, but i can not see them with LaCie Network assistant because of course the Network Space Max is not working at all.

which system use LaCie to encrypt data, can i use an external tool to unlock all partitions ? when i now connect one of the 2 disks i see a lot of drives (G: to P:) but i can not open their content since Windows 7 tells me to format the disk. What should I do ?

I thank you in advance for any help.

OK, well hopefully the original problem of the blue light just flashing wasn't related to a drive failure.

Do you know how the NAS was configured? Were the drives in a mirror set (RAID 1) or a span (JBOD) or a stripe set (RAID 0)?

I'd guess that you are seeing data but can't open it because the data isn't in just a normal format. It may be split across both disks.
You won't be able to access the data on the Lacie disks using anything but an exact matched model NAS. To even get the Synology to fully boot, you'd need to install the Synology DSM which is going to completely overwrite the old Lacie OS partitions on the drives and replace them. You need to understand that a NAS is basically just a small Linux computer, which boots it's own operating system off of the hard drives.

You'll need to recover the data from the drives first before you even think of trying to set up the Synology. Unless you don't mind losing all the data on the disks.

Perhaps you could start by telling more about the failure of the Lacie? Are you sure the problem wasn't related to one or both of the drives?

Thanks JaredDM for your asnwer, I was not understanding why the disk could not be read with another device. I am trying to recover data with Seagate Disk Recover, looks like it see a lot of files but when i try to open them they just dont work.

The failure of the LaCie was that it was not answering to NET wake-up and the blue light was flashing but not waking up in any way. Furthermore when i opened the case i damaged the motherboard by touching a component (I guess it was a condenser) which fell loosen, then i saw there were another component missing. I took it to a electronic repair shop and they asked me the circuitboard diagram to repair it: i asked for it to LaCie support and they just told me they don't own that diagram and there is no authorized LaCie repair that can fix it since it is an old model.

So i see two solution: use another Network Space Max unit to recover files or just forget them (most of them are saved while there were some present only on that NAS).

thank you for your time !

Luckily the disks are ok, I am now scanning the partiotion with EASEUS Data Recovery i found and on one of them I kind of linux operating system directory. I will try now to scan the 1.8 Tb partition which i guess it contains all files, it's going to take a long time.

The NAS was configured with RAID1 and actually i am interested to recover files from the MyShare which is a password-protected share, accessible only to admin by default. The data i recovered so far were readable - but they all where from the OpenShare which is not password proteceted. Still I hope all files arelocated in the same big partition (the other partitions are max 900 Mb).
Thank you again for your help !

UPDATE: i found that problem with LaCie NSM was the power unit, when i replaced it with another same voltage unit the NAS started to work again. I am now copying all files that were present only on the NAS.
