Lag after 5 minutes of gameplay

Hey guys! So as the title says , recently i'm having issues with some games , Gta V in particular. So i open the game play for about 5-10 minutes even 1 hour but then my frame rate just drops all of a sudden and i have to alt tab refresh the desktop and then get back in the game for my frame rate to be normal again and the desktop feels very laggy when i alt tab this happens to me in Overwatch aswell when i alt tab my desktop lags like crazy. I have no heating problems as it is pretty cold right now and i have a decent cooling system. I run windows 7 64 bit , quad core i5 3.4ghz , 8 gb ram and a gtx 650 1gb. My specs are low to play gta v , i know that , but i have been playing it since it came out with this rig and i never had this problem i run it on medium with 55-60 fps with no heating problems. What could be the problem?

How are you verifying you have "no heating problems"? For the most part, it does sound like you're overheating a little (GPU, probably).

When you Alt+Tab to the desktop and back, are your FPS back to normal instantly? And do they drop again quickly?

I agree with Barty this is likely an overheating issue

turn this on and then start the game and wait for the lag to get bad then check your CPU and GPU temps.

Yes, this has started occurring on my laptop recently. Can you please tell me how to fix this? Should I give it to the service center?
