Lag at night

Advice for lag at night?
Between the hours 7-11 pm I experience high latency to local servers and slow internet. (I would usually get a 20-60 ms ping during the day however at night I experience 200-400 ms ping)
About my line: I have a 4096 kb/s line (4 megabyte) with Mweb (a south African ISP)]
It is un shaped and uncapped
I live in Johannesburg south Africa
I have checked numerous times for viruses (nothing)

Note: this only happens at night every night
Any advice would be much appreciated 😀

Additional Details
It has nothing to do with peak times i have an unshaped line
so it does not effect me 😀

An unshaped line does not mean that peak time loads will not affect you, it just helps some since you can manage the ports you are using for your applications, and it is often less helpful for maintaining latency than bandwidth under peak load. I suspect that peak loads are part of your problem and will vary more with servers that are very remote to your location.

Try running trace routes (tracert -d <IP address> in command prompt window) during the peak and off peak times to the servers that you usually access and you may see where the bottleneck is occurring.

Those are local servers and ping should always be around 1ms. Try using the web IP addresses in the tracert or use tracert <web address>. Note there is no -d flag when using the web name. For example,

tracert www.google.com

Other than that, it sound like network congestion since most people work during the day and are home in the evening/night.

As of currently when ever I tracert an ip it keeps timing out

Do other sites do the same? Your ISP may block ICMP packets in which case "request timed out" is normal to see.

Yes, your ISP is blocking the packets.

Thinking about it further, nothing other than heavy use would account for such a regular slowdown unless your router was configured to limit your bandwidth during those times, which would be something you would know about and probably never do.

The only thing that you really can do is complain to your ISP that your latency is too high during those specific hours and ask them if they can do anything to improve the problem. Remind them that you are paying for the premium service over their standard connection. There isn't anything that you can do yourself.
