lag/framerate questions

This is what I think for games like battlefield 1942.

Low framerate is caused by a not powerful enough cpu, sound and graphic card, low memory.

Lag is caused by a not powerful enough server and connection.

I'm confused, can I get lag because of a not powerful enough cpu, sound/graphic card, memory in my pc or will I just get low framerate?

There's a difference in lag and low framerate I'm pretty sure.

You've got it straight. "Lag" is caused by a poor/slow connection to the server. Low Framerate or jittery game-play is caused by slowness with your local system.
