"lag" so bad it forces me to restart

Recently i've been having trouble when playing games like Metro, Arma 3 and other games.

If i start playing Metro, two minutes into the game it will start to "lag", i can barely move the mouse pointer anywhere, and i will try to close the game using Task manager, but when i do, the mouse pointer is gone, it still lags after quitting the game, forcing me to reboot my computer, because it is nearly impossible to do anything.

The same goes for other games but maybe happens after 30 or 60 minutes instead of 2 minutes.
I have also seen my CPU usage go from 0% to 100% in a second, while the lag is there.

I cant find out what is causing this, i suspected faulty hardware or messed up drivers of some sort but im not really getting anywhere. Please help anyone?



If it would help, i have had a few errors before like:
BSOD
Windows kernel mode display drivers stopped responding...
Action center thought there might be a problem with my memory, but test didnt find anything.

ASUS p9x79 le
Intel core i7 4820k
GTX 780 ti
16.00 gb RAM
Windows 7 x64

My guess is your computer is overheating and starts to not perform as well or you could be putting the setting to high like resolution, I candy, and setting but the first is probably right because those are some pretty good parts
