Lag with High end PC

Hey All,

Just a question looking for other opinions. Recently all games started to lag, I have posted my specs down low, I've been thinking about maybe just upgrading my graphics card but figured I'd ask for help before I do anything. Also, Ive noticed the graphics starting to down, I have fans to try and cool down the case but it seems to still be over heating.

Specs:

Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

Processor: Intel Core i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40 GHz (4 CPUs) ~ 3.8GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX770 Approx total memory 8140 MB, Display memory VRAm at 4063

I mostly play GTA V LSPDFR, 911 First Responders, etc.

Download HWMonitor. (Free) This will allow you to check max temps reached during games for MB, CPU & GPU.
If these are ok, check system restore (If set up)
I suddenly keep getting long boot times, game lag etc. Each time I go to restore I find W10 has updated.
I just restore to the point before the latest update and the problem is instantly solved.

That's not exactly a "high end PC" and is actually several years old. But I digress - back to responding to your questions. I would definitely check your temps (CPU, GPU, motherboard) as recommended by Mike Prior. Also, check for system memory errors and check for hardware errors on your hard drive.

I would say your computer isn't necessarily high-end anymore, and your parts might be starting to die from age. GTA is a pretty demanding game and an i5 with a 770 isn't going to handle the game as well as many other PC's. If you still believe that your computer should be doing better than it is, do what the others recommended and check your temperatures. Memory leaks could also be a big problem, and make sure you have not filled your hard drive to the brim with stuff, as this can often cause lag and crashes.

Just figured out while playing LSPDFR, I use all of the memory (8 GB) and most of the CPU. Im gonna be installing more RAM but any other sugestions.

I'm not familiar with the game's normal memory usage but but that seems a lot to me.
Check in task manager to see if other programs are auto starting and hogging memory and cpu.
If you haven't been managing your start-ups to date you will be surprised at how much stuff will be running without your knowledge.
Although this can be done in Windows there are many free utilities that include a start up manager making it simple to spot and disable auto starting.
(CCleaner, Revo Unistaller, Glarys Utilities to name a few.)
