I have the GTX 970 which i had bought a couple of weeks ago. I have tested it out with multiple games. Some games run really well, others run really slow. One of the games I experienced some lag in was Grand Theft Auto 5. I run the game at 1920x1080 at 60hz and at mostly normal settings. I usually get around 40-80 frames a second. Would this be effected by the power supply or processor I have. I have a 500 watt power supply and an AMD fx 6300 processor. If its not the power supply, is there anything else it could be?

My full specs

MSI 970 Motherboard

1 TB hard drive disk

1 500 GB hard drive disk (the disk i have GTA V on)

EVGA GTX 970 Graphics Card

AMD fx 6300

Corsair 500 watt power supply

Solution

AMD is AMD as I have explained above, try to sell off your current mobo and proccy and get an Intel i5 6600k with a Z170 mobo.

An 8350 wont perform any better, its cores are just as weak. The AMD FX range just have weak single core performance and are known to hold back a 970 in CPU intensive games like a GTA V. As long as your PSU is not a Corsair CX or VS and you have a good CPU cooler the best you can do is try overclocking the CPU

Not the processor. An FX-6300 should be more than enough. Check out this link and adjust your in game settings. There may simply be some settings in games that are way too high:

I suspect that's not it though, very unlikely. A big possibility I'm thinking is driver issues. Try reinstalling your NVIDIA drivers.
Also, if you do not keep all the games on the same hard disk, it may be a very slow hard disk, in which case you would need to replace it.

have reinstalled the drivers twice for the Graphics card. I have mostly all the settings set to normal except the post FX. I'll try to turn down the settings down and see what happens.

no amd processor is "more than enough", they are barely adequate nowadays

gta5 needs a fast cpu to run well

The problem is, i dont have that kind of money to go and buy the intel systems. They are just to much for my budget and of what I have seen, they are just to expensive for me. Is there any AMD equivilent? (I just want a processor that is cheap and can stop the problems)
