Lan connection disturbed due to routers

Hey i live in a hostel and we have our own lan ethernet connection which normally works fine. But few days ago some people have setup routers which has disturbed the whole lan connection . no body is able to login into network and use lan. I want to know why using routers can disturb whole lan system and what can be done to use the lan again because it is really difficult to identify which people are using routers ..plzz reply ....

if a 2nd dhcp server is added into your layer2 it will cause issues.
check to see if they plugged the connection into their LAN port.
they might be trying to set it up as an access point, but didn't turn off dhcp.

Yes they are plugging their router into the lan ports to use it as an access point

dhcp runs on layer2 (LAN) and it provides ip/gateway info to devices.
plugging the cable from one LAN to another bridges them. It's a single LAN.
since the other router has nothing in the wan port it's gateway goes no where.
you only want 1 dhcp server and gateway per layer2.

dhcp needs to be turned off on the new AP.

if you are having issues accessing the web admin page, make sure you unplug it from the other LAN and plug one pc into it.
if you can't find the admin page still then do the same thing after a factory reset it. then configure the admin page to be on a free ip of the main router's subnet and turn off dhcp and configure a ssid/pw. apply changes for both at the same time.

main router 192.168.1.1/24 then make the admin 192.168.1.18 for the AP.

Also some people are claiming that they are able to access login portal by using manual proxy configuration same as that of the hostel but that is not working for me ..plz explain....

The hostel needs to provide separate lans to each space for you. one person can mess up your lan plugging the wrong thing in.
