LAN DRivers/WINDOWS 8.1 Help

So iv'e been stuck using a very old Wi_Fi adapter on my newly built PC because I can't get the LAN drivers to work on my ASUS Crosshair V Formula (Non-Z Version). OTher people on the Internet say I need to see if LAN is enabled in the BIOS. I can't seem to get into the BIOS to save my life. There isn't a UEFI tab under the recovery settings (Windows 8.1) and I don't know what button to press on boot up because every time I start my PC up it's a black screen for a few seconds then the screen that shows what devices are installed such as hard drives, SSDs, mice and keyboards detected, etc. After that it goes straight to the windows login screen. Please help!

As soon as you power it up, start tapping the del key continuously and you should be able to get into the bios to make any needed changes.

If you set the startup to be extra fast, then you need to clear the cmos with the motherboard jumper to get access to the bios -- one downside of the real fast boots now available. Then you can make the changes needed and turn the fast boot back on.

How do I clear the CMOS? I'm a bit new to these things. This is my first ever PC build.

Unplug the computer from the wall. Open the case and look for three pins with a painted labeled CLRTC_SW and move the jumper over to the middle and unused pin, wait a moment and then move it back. There are details on this in your manual at 2-18 and on the layout picture the item number is 10 for the jumper to clear the CMOS.

Before doing that though, open the device manager and look under Network Adapters to see if there is on. Double click on it. Does it say that the device is working properly? Under the drivers tab you may want to try and update the driver for Windows 8.1.

FYI -- I checked and there is a new LAN driver at ASUS Support that you should install, it is listed under LAN and only came out at the end of September (Version 8.19.726.2013). That should fix your issue.
