LAN-LAN speeds are slow

Hello All,

I have setup just for me in my home so that I can get the fastest speeds possible when doing LAN-LAN in home. The only devices on my network are my phone, tablet, 1 PC, and a WD My Cloud. They are all hooked up to my Netgear R6300v2 Router. When I try to transfer files from my WD My Cloud (hooked into router via Ethernet) to my pc via Wi-Fi I only get speeds of 20MB/s. When I try this wired I get 80MB/s. This tells me its not the WD My Cloud since it will max out at 80MB/s. Why is it so slow when transfering via Wi-Fi? I am using wireless n 5.0Ghz band. I have the routers 2.4Ghz turned off in hopes to improve my 5.0Ghz speeds. My PC Wi-Fi card is 450Mb/s and works with 5.0Ghz. That should give me speeds of around 55MB/s which i'm not even at half! I also have all firewalls off...if that makes a difference.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

How good is the signal from the router to your PC? Does the speed increase if you move the PC closer?

Wifi is going to be slower than wired, even at 5.0 GHz. You are never going to achieve 450 Mb/s speeds via wifi even a few feet from the router.

Yes, but even with the wall my computer Wi-Fi card is showing 100% signal. It comes with its own software and that's what its showing. Also, even if that is the speeds you expect, why do I not get full speeds? Would it help if I went to AC? I was thinking of getting a new PC Wi-Fi card that did something like 1000Mb/s. Do you think that would raise my speeds? My goal is to get around 50-100MB/s

Between the protocols, equipment, encryption, good ole physics you aren't going to get those speeds with wifi. The numbers they use are for advertising. It's a decent rule of thumb to take 50-60% of whatever speeds they advertise the equipment to work at.
