I was just wondering if anyone has built a server to run UT2004 at a LAN party? Our LAN is getting larger and we are looking to build a machine to use as a server. As I understand it, we won't need any true "server" hardware" as its use will be primarily for LANs and thus any consumer hardware would work? If there are any suggestions on how much memory is needed, what type of software to use (is xp usable?), etc., it would be greatly appreciated.

We would like to host up to 20 or 25 games. It probably wouldn't reach that currently, as not everyone currently likes to spend hours playing it, but we would like that capacity.

Crikey. I guess you could try setting up a dedicated server on some of the machines you already have to see how it well it works. You know, experiment.

For a dedicated server? I've never run one for UT2k4, but in my experience, you don't need squat for a video card unless you want to use that machine to spectate or something. For just serving the game, nah.
