When and where should Landmarks be placed? Next to residential or
commercial? Or is it ok to just dump all landmarks into a corner of the map
surrounded by trees? I am confused, on the back of the SC4 box there is part
commercial and part residential on some type of island, I would imagine that
that city was built so that it could have landmarks there.

Also what do Landmarks actually do?

According to sources already referenced in previous replies (do you
actually read them?), landmarks have a beneficial effect on commercial
demand and should, therefore, be placed in or near commercial zones.

Box art bears no resemblence to reality, as a general rule. The
graphic designer almost certainly had never played the game.

>Also what do Landmarks actually do?

Not a lot - you can build an entire city without them, with no
problems. But they're nice to look at, and do help to make your city a
bit more interesting. And, as stated above, they help improve
commercial demand a bit.

Well, if disasters are on, the landmarks are the primary targets
for the aliens. At least in SC3K they were. If nothing else,
they draw the fire of the aliens away from your other high value
buildings.
