Just a quick question; does it make a difference where you place a landmark?
Should it be near residential or commercial? Or can it just be placed along
with other landmarks away from all the busy networks? Also what does
building a landmark actually do for your city? Does it improve the number of
tourists/people because i did not notice any increase after building my
first 2 landmarks. Would this be because they are positioned away from the
busy town?

thanks

Yes on all accounts. Many buildings in Simcity 4 have either a positive
or negative attractiveness for residencial and/or commercial development
that extends out a certain distance depending on the building.

For example, the Convention Center has an attractiveness of 100 (the
maximum possible) for a radius of 32 squares for commercial and an
attractiveness of -50 for a radius of 22 squares for residencial. In
short, you would use the Center as a nucleus for making a commercial
district more attractive and develop more vigorously.

On the flipside, the Toxic Waste Dump has -60, 24 and -100,48
respectively, compared to the previous case's 100,32 and -50,22. Sure,
you get money you desperately need (the only reason you'd build this
item) but you'd place it well away from any development of any kind.

Landmarks also have these factors. So not only would you build them
because they look cool, you'd also place them to attract certain sims.

I dunno about the various websites but the Prima Strategy Guide for
Simcity4 ($15-$20 at most computer places) has extensive descriptions of
all this material.
