Question lap top does not post

my laptop(hp) switches on quickly with company logo and message at the left bottom 'press esc key for startup menu'. but nothing happens when esc is pressed.

If the logo shows then it should be posting. But it sounds like it can't find an operating system - maybe your OS drive died.
